This provision is good
Children make good progress and are keen to learn. The childminder has a secure understanding of the progress children make and plans activities that closely reflect children's interests and learning needs. Children are very happy and settle quickly. They form a strong bond with the childminder and respond positively to her gentle and sensitive interactions. The childminder is proactive in increasing her skills to help improve the quality of teaching and outcomes for children's learning. Children behave well. They receive lots of praise and encouragement, and learn how to be caring, kind and considerate, helping them to build good relationships with their friends. Children are confident and receive good support from the childminder to gain independence in managing their personal care needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide regular opportunities for children who use languages other than English at home to hear or use these. Information shared with parents is not sufficiently detailed to ensure that they are fully aware of the next steps in children's learning, to help them be more involved in extending their learning further at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

offer more opportunities for children to hear and use languages that are used at home, to support their communication skills provide parents with more detailed information about the next steps in children's learning, to enable them to assist their children's learning at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and a sample of other documentation including policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the provider's self-evaluation and feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder recognises the importance of professional development to enable her to make improvements. For example, she researches topics to increase her skills so she can provide better support for a specific aspect of children's development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities in relation to child protection and knows how to respond to any concerns to help keep children safe. The childminder has made good improvements since her last inspection. For example, she now gathers more information from parents about children's care and learning needs when children first start at the setting. This, along with the information she exchanges with other childcare settings, helps her to provide consistent support for each child.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy the time they spend with the childminder and are keen to be involved in the activities she provides. For example, as they help to make playdough, they use their hands to investigate and explore the textures of the ingredients. They use their fingers and tools to make patterns in the dough, and create different shapes as they squash the dough together. The childminder is fully involved in children's play, extending their learning through good interaction. She repeats words and sounds and responds positively to their babbles, increasing their range of vocabulary. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively and uses this information well to help her provide a wide range of enjoyable activities that helps to build on children's skills and extend their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are relaxed and comfortable in the childminder's home. She is always close by, offering praise and reassurance, helping children to feel secure. Children's health is supported well. They benefit from fresh fruit and vegetables for their snacks and also learn about effective routines to prevent germs from spreading such as washing their hands. The childminder supervises children well and gives effective consideration to safety when planning activities in her home and on outings. She teaches children about keeping safe such as involving them in discussions about road safety.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are prepared well for the next stage in their learning. They show a keen interest in books and frequently select a book to look at by themselves. They are confident to give new things a try to increase their independence. For example, learning how to use a cup instead of a beaker when they have a drink. They frequently hear and use numbers in their play, such as when building towers or measuring water into the dough, supporting their early mathematical skills.
