This provision is good

 The childminder has made significant progress in improving the provision she offers since her last inspection. She seeks parental permission for medication and keeps a written record of any medicines administered. She gathers detailed initial information from parents about children's developmental stages to plan effectively from the start.  The childminder has established very good partnerships with parents. They regularly exchange information about children's learning and achievements. Parents value the childminder's professionalism, her caring approach and the range of educational activities she offers to help their children enjoy learning.  The well-qualified childminder has a very good knowledge of how children learn and high expectations of what they can achieve. She provides fun, high-quality learning experiences that reflect children's interests and individual learning needs. The childminder's support is very effective in enabling children to make good progress in

their learning and development, in readiness for school.  Children benefit greatly from the childminder's enthusiastic approach to outdoor learning. Their understanding of nature and the world around them is very well promoted. Children learn how to care for the childminder's pigs and chickens and follow the lifecycle of plants and animals through the seasons.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children's early literacy skills are not always promoted. The childminder has not explored further ways to encourage children to recognise familiar words, such as their names.  The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to think creatively about how they can use resources in different ways in their play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 explore further ways of promoting children's early literacy skills as they begin to show interest in recognising familiar words  help children to think more deeply about how they can use resources in different ways in their play, encouraging their creativity to flourish.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. She evaluated a focused activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including the childminder's self- evaluation, records of children's learning and development and a selection of policies and procedures.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members and the qualifications of the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents provided through written testimonials.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is well organised and has the best interests of children at heart. She demonstrates a clear drive and determination to continually improve and raise the quality of care and learning for children. The well-qualified childminder is continuing training to achieve a higher level childcare qualification. She effectively uses new knowledge to make positive changes, for example, she has enhanced the outdoor learning environment so that children, particularly those who learn best outside, have an even broader range of activities and experiences. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about child protection issues and how to keep children safe from harm. Policies and procedures are updated to ensure that they comply with current requirements and underpin the childminder's good practice.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder shows great enthusiasm in her role and focuses on fulfilling each child's needs. She gets to know children well through regular observations and accurate assessments of what they can do. She effectively tracks children's progress to ensure that any gaps in their learning are swiftly addressed. Planned activities enthuse and motivate children to be curious about the world around them. The childminder skilfully adapts activities and sensitively encourages children to try new experiences. Children concentrate well as they explore new textures, squealing with delight as they watch the childminder squirt shaving foam onto the table, which they happily explore with their hands. The childminder skilfully incorporates numbers and mathematical language into everyday play. Children enjoy listening to rhymes and songs, dancing or joining in the actions. The childminder places a strong emphasis on developing children's language skills. She

introduces children to new words related to their play, listens to what children say, repeats words back to them and engages them in simple conversations.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is very skilled and sensitive in helping children to form secure emotional attachments. This provides a strong base for their developing independence and encourages exploration. She effectively builds children's self-esteem through her calm and gentle reassurance and guidance. The welcoming, child-centred playroom enables children to make choices from a wide range of high-quality resources and lead their own play. Children's good health is well promoted. They benefit from regular opportunities to be outside and physically active. They eat healthily and learn good hygiene practices through the daily routine.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress given their starting points and capabilities. The childminder prepares children well for the next stage in their learning, such as starting nursery or school. They have the practical skills they need, such as being able to dress and feed themselves. The childminder regularly attends community groups with the children. This helps extend their confidence and social skills as they meet with other adults and children.
