This provision is good
The childminder provides children with a stimulating and well-resourced play environment. For example, she has thought very carefully about the varied experiences for children who prefer to learn outside. The well-qualified childminder has a secure understanding of observation, assessment and planning for children's needs. Children make good progress. Strong attention is given by the childminder to help children live a healthy lifestyle. The childminder reflects on her practice well and is motivated to provide children with high standards of care and early education. She consistently looks at ways to improve her practice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children do not benefit from extensive learning opportunities about nature and living things. When children first start, the childminder does not gain full information about their learning and development from other professionals involved in their lives.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play activities and the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the children and looked at their learning records. The inspector sampled some safeguarding and leadership documentation. The inspector sampled written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder assesses risks and takes steps to minimise hazards in her home. She has undertaken recent child protection training and knows what action to take if she has concerns about a child's welfare, including those at risk of extreme views. The childminder is extremely well organised and supervises the practice of her assistant carefully. She monitors children's progress effectively and reflects on her practice, involving parents in the improvement process. The childminder builds a strong partnership with parents, who each receive accurate information about their children's progress and how they can support children at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a good range of purposeful play activities and outings to interest children. She models effective language skills. For example, the childminder provides a commentary during children's play and as part of the daily routine, and will often pause to encourage children to join in. The childminder uses songs well to stimulate children's understanding and speaking skills. For example, when children thread star-shaped buttons, she sings a well-known rhyme. The childminder provides good experiences for mathematical play, extending children's knowledge of numbers and counting. She makes sure that babies have frequent opportunities to have 'tummy time' and to explore toys with their fingers to gain good physical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder cares for babies well and has high expectations of children. Children behave well and learn to be courteous. New children settle well and are confident to make independent choices from a wealth of toy resources. Children build a strong relationship with the childminder. She engages in plenty of playful interactions with them and values and praises their efforts. The childminder provides a caring and nurturing environment, helping children to feel secure and valued. For example, they use a new cup with their picture on, giving them a keen sense of belonging. Children learn how to keep safe and healthy, such as washing hands before eating their nutritious snack.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children are inquisitive and responsive. They eagerly select toys and happily play with the childminder. Two-year-olds talk in simple sentences, name colours and sort small fruit shapes onto a pie, developing mathematical skills. Babies are extremely content and communicate well with smiles, showing their delight in activities such as holding small sensory toys. Children are active and busy outdoors. They find and name pictures of minibeasts. They have fun exploring soil and learn to use tools, digging and filling pots. All children are ready for the next stage of their education.
