This provision is good
Children are secure and confident. The childminder forms positive bonds with them and supports their emotional well-being effectively. The childminder works effectively with parents to ensure a continuous approach to meeting children's individual needs. For instance, she gathers information from parents about children's routines and early achievements when they first start at the setting. She uses this to plan effectively for their individual needs from the outset. Children make good progress and develop the necessary skills in readiness for school. For instance, they learn to play with each other kindly, share and take turns. The childminder shares her expectations with children while they play to help them learn what acceptable behaviour is. The childminder understands the importance of developing her skills and knowledge. She actively seeks opportunities to improve her practice and children's experiences. For

example, she researches about any changes to legislation in childcare to help her implement them and ensure her setting is up to date.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consider fully the outcomes of some activities, in particular, to challenge children even further and enhance their learning experiences. At times, opportunities for children to learn more about people who live beyond their immediate community are less successful to help raise their awareness of diversity.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children. The inspector looked at a range of documentation including risk assessments, children's records and the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector viewed the parts of the premises used for childminding and talked to children at appropriate times. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about children's learning and how she reflects on the quality of her service. The inspector considered the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder generally reflects well on the quality of the setting. She seeks the views of others, such as parents, to help her recognise her strengths and areas she wants to improve upon. She acts on the advice of other professionals to improve her teaching expertise and outcomes for children. For example, she has remedied all weaknesses raised at the last inspection. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements effective policies and procedures to keep children safe. She understands her responsibilities in ensuring children's well-being, and knows how to report her concerns if she suspects a child is at risk of harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has made positive changes to her assessments and planning process for children's learning, and she continues to develop her practice even further. For instance, she has acted on advice from her local childminding coordinator and has developed her systems for assessing children's starting points. The childminder regularly observes what children are able to do and uses this information to plan activities that extend their learning. She plans age-appropriate activities and follows children's interests to help encourage their involvement and motivation. Children concentrate well and are keen to join in. For example, they enjoy experimenting with tools for painting and explore what happens when colours are mixed. The childminder provides children with good opportunities to develop their language skills. For instance, she talks to children while they play to help them learn new words and use them in context.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children well to develop an understanding of following good hygiene practices. For example, she teaches them to wash their own hands independently. Children eat nutritious foods and learn about healthy lifestyles. Furthermore, they are active and enjoy outings, such as to the local park, to develop their physical skills and well-being. Children behave well and are keen to help. For instance, they happily join in when it is time to tidy up and learn to be responsible. The childminder supports children's health and safety well. For instance, she carries out daily checks of the premises to remove or minimise hazards.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and learn a range of skills that prepares them well for their future learning. They develop their physical and early writing skills well. For example, they learn to use writing tools with control and enjoy naming the things they have drawn. Children develop their understanding of the world. For instance, they explore natural objects, such as leaves, and learn about changes in nature.
