This provision is good
The childminder has a very good knowledge of the children she cares for. She understands how young children learn and how she can support the development of what they know, understand and can do. This contributes to children's good progress from their starting points. The learning environment is very well planned and presented. Children have access to a wealth of interesting resources and play experiences that greatly supports their learning across all areas. The childminder and her assistant are excellent role models for children, encouraging kindness and good manners. Children know what is expected from them and behave exceptionally well. Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder shares daily information that helps to ensure continuity of care for children. Parents' comments demonstrate that they feel well informed and involved in their child's learning and development. The childminder works very well with her co-childminder and assistant. She has a

strong commitment to continually developing her practice to positively impact on the children she cares for.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The arrangements for professional development are not focused sharply enough on raising the quality of teaching to help children consistently achieve rapid progress in their learning. There are times when the childminder does not precisely focus her teaching, in order to support children's communication and language to the highest level during adult-led activities.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder and assessed the accuracy of her evaluation. The inspector looked at children's records, discussed planning and looked at a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures. She also checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation and took account of the views of parents expressed in written testimonials.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of child protection and the procedures of their Local Safeguarding Children Board. The childminder conducts daily checks of her house and garden to minimise any identified hazards to children. She has implemented a wide range of policies and procedures. These underpin her practice and are effectively shared with parents. Monitoring of children's progress is timely and accurate. This helps to ensure that the childminder can identify any emerging gaps as soon as possible. The childminder is proactive in seeking support from other professionals for children who need extra support. She understands the importance of maintaining professional relationships with other local settings. The childminder provides effective and ongoing supervision for her assistant. This includes regular reflection and evaluation of the activities and experiences offered to children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts purposefully to support children's play and learning. She models how to roll balls to babies and they babble to express their enjoyment as they roll the ball back to her successfully. She offers gentle reassurance and encouragement when children feel less sure of themselves when exploring new sensory activities. The childminder uses the information from her observations and assessments well to plan for the next steps in children's learning. She gathers detailed information about children's development when they first start to help her determine their starting points. Children enjoy joining in with stories and songs. Older children are eager to count. They have many opportunities to make marks and are supported to recognise and write their name.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are extremely happy and content. They demonstrate that they feel secure in the childminder's care. They have strong relationships with the childminder and her assistant and their emotional well-being is promoted effectively. Children develop their knowledge of a healthy, balanced diet and how this contributes to their overall well-being. They enjoy outdoor play in all weathers. They are encouraged to develop their physical skills and try new experiences as they climb, slide and balance. The childminder promotes children's awareness of personal safety and risks well. She involves them in practising safety procedures, including fire evacuations. Children learn about the world around them and how to care for living things, for example, as they help to look after the pet rabbits.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and active learners. They are motivated and eager to explore and learn new things. Resources are easily accessible and children are developing good independence skills. Children are gaining the skills needed for their future learning and school. The childminder skilfully supports children in building their self-confidence and managing their feelings and behaviour. Children have good opportunities to learn about each other's similarities and differences. They learn to value and respect one another.
