p.1

This provision is good

 Children exhibit great confidence for their age and stage of development. They have genuine respect and affection for the childminder and are extremely excited and at ease in her care and in the highly stimulating environment.  There is excellent attention to children's health and well-being. For example, the childminder makes sure the children can access challenging, physical play equipment frequently to gain the exercise they need for their bodies.  The childminder relates to children extremely well. She provides engaging play and learning activities which children clearly enjoy. Children make good progress.  The childminder establishes friendly, warm and trusting relationships with parents. Very good communications help to ensure children's needs are met well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Adult-led activities occasionally lack resources, therefore children's learning opportunities are not completely maximised.  Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to teach children about simple number problems.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 plan adult-led activities precisely, taking better account of the required resources to help children make rapid progress in their development  extend further children's mathematical learning opportunities such as understanding about simple number problems.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's play activities and the childminder's interactions with children.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the children and looked at their learning records.  The inspector sampled some safeguarding and leadership documentation.  The inspector sampled written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is enthusiastic about her role and implements the legal requirements well. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection procedures. She knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare, including those at risk from extreme views. She is proactive in developing her knowledge. For example, after reading articles and attending networking groups she evaluates and improves her practice successfully. For example, she has developed her garden to help children manage their own risks and to have greater physical challenges. She works well with other settings children attend to ensure information about their needs is shared.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has good teaching skills. She understands each child's interests and development, and provides stimulating activities and experiences to match their needs. The childminder plans for children's next steps well, sharing this information with parents. Children show great enjoyment in their play. For example, they experiment with paint, mixing and talking about colours enthusiastically to produce paintings. The childminder tailors her interaction to build on what the children know and can do. She develops children's understanding, vocabulary and thinking skills effectively, for example, through her conversations and questioning during snack time and story time.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The exceedingly caring and understanding childminder offers children a nurturing environment in which they flourish. Children feel extremely settled and secure and make exceptional relationships with the childminder and each other. The extensive range of toys and play activities is easily accessible, enabling children to make independent decisions about their play. Children behave impeccably and show high levels of confidence and social skills. For example, they show great self-assurance when they articulately tell visitors about their pets. Each child is carefully included by the childminder; they thrive upon the very specific attention, praise and encouragement given to them. The childminder encourages children to take risks in a carefully managed way. For example, children climb up the ladder in the garden to the playhouse.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are happy, motivated and enthusiastic learners who are curious and imaginative in their play. They develop strong levels of independence, make good progress and gain skills in readiness for school. Children are confident in leading their own play, such as when they decide to make music. They play a keyboard, dance and tell their friends what to do. Children have plenty of fun in play. For example, they recognise and match numerals on the 'treasure' which they excitedly find in the sand.
