This provision is good

 The childminder has a good knowledge of how to keep children safe. She has effective systems in place to help ensure their safety.  The childminder has high expectations of all children and uses consistent boundaries to help children learn to recognise and manage their feelings.  Children benefit from the daily outdoor activities. For example, they enjoy exploring the local area with visits to the park and shops. This helps to provide them with a broad range of outdoor learning experiences, such as recognising numbers.  The childminder has made improvements since the last inspection. For instance, she has introduced a system to share what the children are doing daily with parents, which enables them to discuss and build on learning opportunities at home.  The quality of teaching is consistently strong. For example, the childminder uses skilful questioning and gives children time to think before they answer. This helps build on

their confidence.  Children are keen to try new things for themselves and are well-prepared for their next stage in learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Information sharing with other settings that children attend is not fully established.  The childminder does not fully extend children's awareness of other people's similarities and differences.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve information sharing with other settings that children attend to support their ongoing learning more  build on ways to develop children's awareness of people's differences and similarities further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed a sample of paperwork, including policies, children's records, the attendance register and development records.  The inspector took account of parents' written comments.  The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children throughout the inspection.  The childminder gave the inspector a tour of the environment and resources.  The inspector discussed how the childminder evaluates her practice.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder manages risks well and has good knowledge of the actions to take if she has concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder is well organised and maintains effective systems to ensure each child's welfare and development is monitored. The childminder continually improves her knowledge and teaching skills. For example, she attends training courses and recently obtained a relevant level 3 qualification. She regularly reflects on her practice to meet the needs of the children and help them reach their full potential.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder consistently increases children's mathematical knowledge, such as when she refers to size, shape, position and quantity as children play during well-planned activities and learning experiences. The childminder uses her accurate observations and assessments to identify learning gaps, and she plans effectively to enable children to make further progress. She provides a wide range of activities that are relevant to children's interests and stages of development. For example, the childminder engages in children's play with cars to extend their counting skills and develop road safety awareness.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well. They know the routines and feel safe in the familiar environment. Sensitive encouragement from the childminder helps young children to become independent, such as helping them learn how to put on coats and shoes. Children develop an increasingly positive awareness of healthy lifestyles. For example, they talk about nutritious foods, such as fruits and vegetables, and follow good hygiene routines. There is effective support from the childminder to help young children become independent and manage their own personal care needs. This helps prepare them for school. Children have positive relationships with the childminder.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good and consistent progress from their starting points. They explore freely, have their opinions valued and are confident to make choices. Children learn new words that help extend their knowledge and language skills. For example, they use descriptive words such as 'ginormous' to explain size, and they discuss the veins in the leaf as they explore the autumn leaves. Children use their imagination well, for example, as they pretend to be a penguin and practise their jumping skills.
