This provision is good
Since the last inspection, the childminder effectively evaluates the provision and has improved the working relationships with parents. They exchange regular information about the children and work together to support their learning and development. The childminder develops close partnerships with other providers that children attend, to extend children's learning experiences. The childminder completes regular health and safety checks of the premises to ensure the children play within a safe environment. The childminder observes, plans and assesses individual children well. She provides a wide range of indoor and outdoor opportunities for them to enjoy and to help them make good progress in their development. Children behave well and demonstrate a clear understanding of right from wrong. The childminder consistently encourages positive behaviour and role models good manners to the children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to extend further children's understanding of how to use equipment correctly such as scissors. The childminder does not provide many opportunities to strengthen children's growing awareness of similarities and differences such as between themselves and other families within the local community.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
make use of all opportunities to teach children how to use different equipment appropriately and safely extend opportunities to develop further children's understanding of the world, in particular diversity.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including the childminder's insurance policy, records of attendance, risk assessments and safeguarding policy. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her daily teaching and care practices. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder, and observed the quality of care, teaching and children's learning. The inspector looked at the areas, toys and equipment used for childminding purposes. The inspector took account of the children's views and written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her role to protect children. She is aware of the issues of child protection and the procedures to report any concerns including allegations to the relevant authorities. The childminder keeps the setting's policies and procedures up to date and maintains her professional development well, to enhance her knowledge and skills. For example, she effectively assesses and monitors individual children's learning and development. Parents' written feedback highlights they are happy with the childminder's welcoming approach and the quality of care and learning opportunities available to their children. The childminder uses evaluative feedback from parents and children well to strengthen children's outcomes.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts and engages children well during their play. She successfully supports their communication and language skills. For example, she makes use of all opportunities to extend children's vocabulary and to strengthen their speaking and listening skills. The childminder provides many opportunities for the children to develop their imaginative skills. For example, children enjoy role play and pretend to prepare food such as sausage and tea. The childminder effectively supports children to develop their literacy and mathematical skills. For example, children listen to stories, practise writing, count and recognise colours. Children enjoy using various physical resources, such as bikes, slides and ball games, to develop their large and small muscles. Children develop their creative skills well. For example, they explore and glue leaves together.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well and develop close attachments with the childminder. They display a sense of belonging and happiness. Children form friendships and learn to share and take turns during their play. They manage small responsibilities on their own such as feeding and dressing themselves. The childminder ensures there is flexibility in the routines and activities to meet individual children's needs and interests. For example, children choose their own resources, they explore and follow their own interests to learn. The childminder supports children's good health and physical well-being. For example, children wash their hands at appropriate times and she encourages parents to provide healthy food.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their development, in relation to their starting points. They develop skills in preparation for the next stages in their learning and for school. For example, children initiate their own conversation and ask questions to further develop their understanding. They display independence and confidence. They learn to write letters, such as in their names, and draw shapes.
