This provision is good
Children are exceptionally well supported by the childminder, who is considerate and thoughtful. She completely understands their welfare needs and meets these outstandingly well. Children are extremely confident and secure in this warm, stimulating learning environment. The childminder has very effective partnership with parents. She keeps them fully informed about their children's progress and the activities they take part in. This helps parents to continue with their children's learning at home. The childminder skilfully supports children's communication and language skills. For example, while reading stories, the childminder asks the children questions about the characters in the book, such as to describe why they are scary. All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good progress. The childminder creates a stimulating, exciting and very safe environment for the

children to explore and learn in. For example, she provides a sensory wall that enables children to learn colours and stimulates babies' interest to follow bubbles as they land and burst.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not make full use of opportunities to help children to explore letters and words in different ways to enhance their early reading skills.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

increase opportunities for children to explore words and letters to develop their literacy skills as effectively as possible.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector and the childminder discussed the systems she uses to observe and record children's progress, and the documents she uses to support her work. The inspector completed observations of the children as they engaged in activities with the childminder. The inspector looked at the rooms and resources the children use. The inspector sampled written feedback from parents, which the childminder made available during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough understanding of current child protection issues. She knows the signs and symptoms that may alert her to any issues about a child's welfare and how to report these. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date. For example, she attends training and researches childcare-related topics. She values training and uses her knowledge to provide good quality teaching and learning experiences for children. The childminder reviews and reflects on her practice regularly. For example, by making changes to her methods of assessment and observation, she is able to close any gaps in learning and ensure children make good progress in her care. The childminder thoroughly understands her responsibility to keep Ofsted informed of any changes that may affect her suitability to care for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children very well. She successfully adapts activities and plans to suit the learning needs of all the children. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to plan their own activities. For example, when an interest in pirates led to them wanting to build a pirate ship, the childminder provided appropriate resources to help them follow their ideas. The childminder uses cooking activities to enhance children's understanding of food and where it comes from. For example, children are delighted to help the childminder make their lunch. They enjoy helping her with the mixing and like to choose the ingredients to add to the egg muffins.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children benefit from the care of this warm, thoughtful and kind childminder. They thrive in the inspiring environment and are motivated and ready to learn. Children are emotionally secure. The childminder knows and respects their home routines, including their individual sleeping and eating patterns. She implements high standards of care and hygiene practice to support children's personal care. Children have excellent opportunities to learn and investigate the outdoor environment; for example, they plant and pick vegetables from the allotment and explore the community. The childminder extends this activity to help children understand about using tools safely and the most appropriate clothes to wear. Children stay completely safe on outings and learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, the childminder ensures they understand about crossing the road safely and are aware of others around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy learning and playing together. They become fully involved in activities, particularly those that help them to develop their mathematical skills. For example, they count the eggs as they carefully crack them into the bowl during the cooking activity. Children develop the skills that contribute effectively to their future learning and school.
