This provision is good
The childminder provides a good range of activities and experiences that effectively meet the needs of all the children. She clearly knows the children well and quickly identifies any areas where they need more support. This helps her to ensure all children make good progress from their starting points. Children behave well and the childminder helps them to understand why certain behaviour is not acceptable. She uses praise very effectively to encourage children to be kind and considerate to others. The childminder has developed very positive relationships with parents and has an ongoing exchange of information with them, helping children receive good continuity in their care and learning. The childminder has taken positive steps to meet the previous recommendation. She has a clear focus on making further improvements and building positive links with other professionals and settings.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully extend opportunities to help children develop early mathematical skills, such as counting and recognising shapes and sizes. The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to help children to gain an understanding of different traditions in the wider community.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector observed the childminder playing with the children during a range of activities. The inspector discussed the childminder's policies, looked at children's records and checked evidence of the suitability checks and qualifications of the childminder. The inspector discussed activities with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents expressed in their written responses.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the signs that may cause her concern and the processes she needs to follow to protect children from harm. She thoroughly checks all areas of her home for hazards and carefully assesses possible risks on any outings. The childminder understands the value of improving her skills and knowledge to support best learning for children. For example, she monitors her work successfully and she regularly exchanges ideas with others to help improve her practice and the outcomes for children. The childminder reviews planning and assessment daily to identify, and very quickly narrow, any gaps in children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know children well and observes and assesses their stages of learning carefully. She makes effective use of termly reports to provide parents with a summary of children's development and to successfully identify learning priorities for each child. The childminder builds children's communication skills very effectively. For example, she carries on conversations with older children, asking questions that help them use their language skills to describe what they are doing. At the inspection, children delighted in learning while they played, for example, using their imagination to build a zoo with the different animals. They used different tools with care and skill, helping to develop good physical skills. The childminder plans a very wide range of outings, such as to local wildlife areas. These provide plenty of opportunities for children to explore and investigate the natural world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident, settled and secure in the childminder's warm and welcoming home. They are extensively independent and make choices and decisions for themselves. For example, children freely choose activities and resources to help them actively follow their own interests. The childminder helps them to be confident in managing their personal needs, such as following good hygiene routines. Children listen well and understand and eagerly follow the routines. The childminder encourages the older children to help the younger ones, supporting them to develop a caring attitude.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are quickly developing skills they need for a successful move on to school. They are happy to join in tasks, such as tidying up after each activity. Children develop good social skills and learn to communicate well. They enjoy learning and eagerly take part in activities. Children like to explore and investigate things for themselves. For example, they thoroughly enjoyed playing with the rice, discovering how it felt and how they could use spoons and scoops to fill different containers.
