This provision is good
The childminder tracks children's progress effectively and this helps her identify any weaker areas in their learning. She knows how to find appropriate support from other professionals, if necessary, to help all children make good progress. The childminder continues to develop and refresh her professional knowledge. For example, she has used learning from further research to extend her understanding of how children learn and develop. She links with other local childminders to share good practice and engage in professional discussion. The childminder supports children's interests well. For example, children are very motivated taking part in art and craft activities. The childminder enables them to use the resources in their own way. This extends their imagination and creativity. Children have many opportunities to visit local groups, libraries and places of interest in the local community. They gain a positive awareness of people's differences.
p.1
This provision is good
Children have warm and close relationships with the childminder, and they enjoy her engagement in their play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to support children's developing understanding of mathematical concepts such as counting in their play. The childminder does not engage parents highly successfully in helping her to decide how to develop her service further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make the most of opportunities to support children's understanding of mathematical concepts during their play develop more ways to gain parents' ideas and suggestions, to improve the rigour of self-evaluation and develop the provision to the highest quality.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in activities and the childminder's interaction with them. The inspector looked at a sample of various documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation and relevant policies and procedures. The inspector discussed planning, activities, children's learning and welfare with the childminder. The inspector took into account the views of parents from written comments in assessment reports.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date. For example, she has recently undertaken training relating to child protection. The childminder knows what to do if children are at risk of harm and how to prevent them being drawn into dangerous situations. She implements good procedures and risk assessments to keep children safe in her care. The childminder works in strong partnerships with professionals to support vulnerable children and their families. She has developed effective partnerships with other early years providers to work together to share information and meet each child's care and learning needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes the children as they play and uses her assessments well to plan for children's future learning. She regularly seeks information from parents to find out what children can do at home and about their changing interests. She keeps parents regularly informed of children's achievements so they can further support children's learning at home. Children thoroughly enjoy the learning experiences and activities that the childminder plans. For example, children really enjoyed exploring sound using a wide variety of musical instruments. They learnt about maintaining a rhythm as they enthusiastically sang and beat drums to their favourite songs and rhymes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop good routines to keep themselves safe and healthy. For example, the childminder helps them to understand the importance of hand washing before eating and about how germs can spread. The childminder supports children's independence effectively. For example, children learn to use scissors with care during craft activities. Children enjoy having responsibility for small tasks; they enjoy taking part in tidying away their resources when they have finished playing with them. Children behave well. They demonstrate kindness and consideration for others, and share and take turns with their toys well. The childminder encourages children's confidence and self-esteem well, for example, by regularly praising their achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and develop the skills to prepare them for future learning, and in readiness for school. They are very motivated in their play and concentrate for good lengths of time on activities that really interest them. Children are developing good early literacy skills. For example, they recognise and name letters that make up their names. They are developing confidence in using technology for a purpose, such as playing age-appropriate games, and listening to their favourite songs and nursery rhymes.
