This provision is good

 The manager works in close partnership with the school and other professionals. This supports the care and continued learning of all children well, including those who have special educational needs or disability. An inclusive environment is provided for all children.  The manager and her team regularly evaluate their practice and develop strategies for the continuous improvement of the provision. They seek the views of parents and take up their suggestions, such as the extension of the opening hours in the morning session.  Partnerships with parents are effective. Parents speak very highly of the provision made for their children. They value the fact that the club is run by staff who also work in the school and know their children well. Parents appreciate the all-round care children receive.  Children have good social skills and enjoy strong relationships with staff and other children. They share and take turns, and play together well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, there is not a wide range of activities, particularly for those children who enjoy playing outside.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their views.  The inspector sampled a selection of the club's documentation.  The inspector spoke to staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector observed children interacting with staff and engaging in activities.  The inspector carried out a joint observation of an activity with the manager.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The manager and staff provide a safe environment for children. They complete daily risk assessments and have undertaken specific training, such as fire safety, which helps to keep children safe from possible risks. Children learn about how to keep themselves safe, for example, they take part in frequent fire evacuation practices. Safeguarding is effective. All staff receive regular training in safeguarding and child protection. They have a clear understanding of the signs that may indicate that a child is at risk of harm or neglect. They know the procedures to follow for reporting any concerns. The manager regularly monitors staff practice to help them improve their skills. The recommendations raised at the previous have been successfully addressed. For instance, children are now encouraged to be more independent when taking part in activities organised by staff.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Overall, staff provide and prepare a good balance of planned and free choice activities. Children freely choose what they want to do from the range of activities on offer and engage well in their play and activities. Staff support and encourage children's play and involvement in activities well, which helps keep children interested and occupied. Staff are skilled at complementing the learning that takes place in school for children. For example, they use a range of strategies to support children's communication and language development, including questioning, introducing new vocabulary and talking to children about their experiences. Children play imaginatively and cooperate well during their play, such as during role play and creative activities. They develop a good understanding of cultural diversity through a range of resources and activities.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children display very good behaviour and enjoy the friendly and warm atmosphere that staff create for them. Staff know the children well and meet their individual needs securely. For example, all staff work in the school during the day. Children develop a strong sense of belonging and feel safe and secure at the club. For example, the newly introduced 'buddy system' helps to build children's confidence effectively and encourages them to make new friends. Staff encourage children to take responsibility for themselves, such as preparing their own tea, and seeing to their own personal hygiene needs. Children know the importance of healthy lifestyles, such as eating well for their good health.
