This provision is good
Planning is effectively based on the childminder's ongoing observations and assessments of children's progress. She precisely highlights gaps in children's development and plans for the next steps in their learning. Clear and detailed monitoring ensures all children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder undertakes relevant training to build on her existing knowledge and skills. For example, she is studying for a further qualification in early years to improve the quality of teaching and to identify further improvements. The childminder continually reviews her provision to help her identify ways in which she can improve outcomes for children. For example, she is creating new play experiences in the outdoor play area to stimulate children's imaginative and physical play further. The childminder provides and encourages a balanced diet for children. For example, she gives parents guidance and information about offering healthy options for children.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder is a positive role model. The children show empathy and patience with other children of differing ages and abilities. They develop solid friendships.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not give children enough time to think about their ideas and solve problems for themselves, before intervening and asking them further questions.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

build on opportunities for children to become more confident in responding to questions and solving problems for themselves.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's policies and procedures and training certificates. The inspector took account of the written views and comments from parents made available during the inspection. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments of her home, and she provides children with a safe and secure environment. She has a good understanding of child protection issues and knows how to refer concerns about children's welfare to the appropriate authorities. She shares a range of policies and procedures with parents, and provides them with regular updates of their children's progress and the activities they enjoy. For example, she provides a weekly newsletter to inform parents of activities that children have enjoyed and provides daily information about their children's progress, which they appreciate. This helps to enable parents to continue children's learning, for instance, at home. The childminder reviews her practice well. For example, she includes children's ideas into her plans to help her improve outcomes for children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder develops children's speaking abilities, such as by singing songs, and she repeats words back to children to help them learn new words. She has effective strategies in place to support children who speak English as an additional language. For example, she learns key words in their language and uses visual cues, signs and gestures. Children learn skills that support them for their future learning. For instance, they gain a good knowledge of mathematics as they play, such as when they talk about numbers. They learn to recite numbers in the correct order and count accurately. The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming environment. Children benefit from a wide range of learning experiences, based on their individual needs and interests.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is encouraging and she praises children for their efforts and achievements. This generally helps children to build on their current abilities. Children learn to behave well and are polite. They enjoy regular access to outdoor play to develop their larger muscles. Children enjoy their time with the childminder and have fun. They learn about the world around them. For example, they learn about different celebrations and festivals. The childminder routinely teaches children how to keep themselves safe, such as reminding them to hold the railing when climbing steps.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those that are receiving funding, make good progress. Children learn to carry out small tasks, such as helping to tidy toys away. They gain the essential skills needed in preparation for their next stage in learning and eventual move to school. They play cooperatively and develop good social skills. Children recognise numbers and shapes and understand that print has meaning.
