This provision is good
The childminder teaches well. He provides children with an engaging environment where they are able to choose resources in different effective ways to aid their learning. Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder encourages children's mathematical skills during enjoyable activities; for example, when they use number books to count images and correctly match the numbers. Children are confident and independent during routine activities. For instance, the childminder encourages hygiene practices, such as washing hands before meals and snacks. Children are sensitively cared for, happy to attend, and they behave well. The childminder has maintained good levels of service since the last inspection. He reflects on all aspects of his practice to identify further improvement. He shows a good understanding of his strengths and priorities to tackle.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not have effective partnerships with other early years settings involved with the children to help support their learning and development. The childminder does not share children's assessments effectively with parents to aid their children's learning when at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

improve on current methods of communicating with other settings children attend, to help strengthen children's learning, development and care share information more effectively with parents about their children's progress to help support their learning when at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the areas of the premises that the childminder uses for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has successfully addressed the recommendations raised at the previous inspection. For instance, he has increased opportunities for children to develop their pre- writing and literacy skills. The childminder undertakes training to develop his expertise and extend his knowledge and skills. For example, he attends assessment and planning training to help him encourage children's learning even more. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. He knows how to refer concerns and seek advice to ensure children's safety and well-being. The childminder helps to keep children safe. For instance, he carries out regular risk assessments covering all areas of his home, garden and when going on outings. Parents like their children's experiences at the setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children's progress effectively and uses this information well to plan enjoyable, thoughtful and challenging experiences for them. This helps the childminder to fully identify and close any gaps in children's understanding. The childminder extends children's communication skills effectively when he talks to them. For instance, he asks open-ended questions and introduces new vocabulary, such as 'saturate', which helps to increase children's language skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play happily and with confidence. They have secure relationships with the childminder and his family. Children are well behaved, kind and considerate to each other. The childminder acts as a good example and offers gentle reminders to encourage positive behaviour. He provides regular opportunities for children to develop an understanding of the world around them and of being healthy. For example, children learn about healthy food by growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables in the garden. They also take part in regular cooking activities, where they make and taste food from around the world. Children develop a good knowledge of keeping themselves safe. For instance, the childminder talks to children about road safety during local walks and what they need to do before crossing the roads and drives.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children progress well in relation to what they know when they start. They are confident and relate well to others. Children refine their key early skills that help them to be prepared for their future learning. They develop positive attitudes and have strong social skills. They are beginning to understand and appreciate the differences found in others to help their understanding of the wider world.
