This provision is good
The childminder provides stimulating activities and promotes children's learning well. She makes accurate assessments of children's development and plans effectively for their further learning, which ensures they make good progress. The childminder shares information consistently with parents and other providers. She maintains a three-way flow of information with parents and nurseries to ensure children get the support they need. Children have a sense of belonging and are happy. The childminder cares for older siblings and this helps children to form strong bonds as they have had contact with her before they attend permanently. Children are cared for in a welcoming and cheerful environment. Many displays are at their level so that they can see letters, numbers, colours and shapes. Children have access to a wide range of resources from which they select for their own play. The childminder carries out regular reviews as part of the self-evaluation. She involves

parents in the review of her setting and identifies areas for improvement. She makes changes effectively to improve the quality of learning and care for the children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not always consider how children of different ages can be fully involved when taking part in planned activities together.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at those parts of the childminder's home used for the care of children. The inspector observed teaching and learning activities in the indoor environment. The inspector carried out a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of procedures and children's records. The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation form and read written feedback from parents. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements. She maintains her professional development through consistent research and training. The childminder monitors her teaching and children's learning rigorously to ensure they make good progress in their development. She invites parents to contribute to their children's learning and provides good feedback about what children do. Parents write positive comments in their feedback about the childminder. They are very impressed with the high level of care she provides and they value the consistent communication. The childminder has regular discussions with other providers to ensure she understands how to support those children who attend school full time. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to promote children's welfare and to keep them safe from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder provides many opportunities for children to learn. Stimulating activities are delivered well and children enjoy their learning. The childminder plans for each child so that their individual needs are met effectively. She provides good levels of challenge for older children to demonstrate their understanding. They describe play dough as, 'Bright yellow like the sun'. Children's coordination skills are promoted well as they mould and stretch materials. Younger children are fascinated while they look through magnifying glasses at the pattern of twigs and make discoveries. The childminder introduces additional items and encourages children consistently to repeat words, such as pine cones and conkers. Younger children then attempt to say these, which increases their speaking skills appropriately.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are at ease in the care of the childminder. Their emotional well-being is promoted very well. The childminder gives lots of praise and children maintain good interaction with her while they play and learn. Children are highly disciplined in their behaviour. They change their focus consistently and switch independently from one type of play to another. Children are content to play on their own and they also join in with others. They need few reminders to follow the rules. They share and take turns. Children are self- assured as they move from imaginary play to counting and then select cards that they stick onto the day and weather chart. Children gain a good understanding of health matters. They enjoy balanced meals and have many opportunities to walk daily on the school run.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children of all ages make good progress from their starting points and they develop essential skills for their future learning. The language skills of younger children are developing and all children develop skills to attend to their personal needs. Older children practise counting and say the first letters in words while they play. Children are confident and develop skills as independent learners. They are well prepared for their learning at nursery and school.
