They form strong attachments with the childminder and her assistant. The childminder makes good use of observations and assessments to help her to plan and track children's progress. She provides a wide range of activities and resources that link in with children's interests and learning needs. Children enjoy the play and learning experiences provided. Children's well-being is given good priority. Children are consistently praised in their achievements. This helps them develop good levels of confidence and self-esteem. strengths and areas where she can improve her provision and practice further.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently support children to make choices and extend their own play and learning experiences to help build on their independence skills. The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to explore natural resources and build on their understanding of the world around them and natural materials.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed areas of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact of this on children's learning. The inspector discussed the self-evaluation process with the childminder and her assistant and how the views of parents and children are considered within this. The inspector looked at policies and procedures, children's progress records and other required documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant fully understand what action to take if they have concerns about the welfare of a child. They are also aware of how to identify if a child may be at risk of harm from extremist behaviour and views. The childminder closely follows her risk assessment procedures to check the safety and suitability of her premises. She has established good partnerships with parents and shares information with them about their children's time with her. The childminder carries out regular supervision with her assistant to help ensure he is up to date with current practices and aware of children's needs. She understands the importance of working with parents and other professionals to provide consistency in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant have a good knowledge of how to observe children's learning effectively. Good attention is given to developing younger children's communication and language skills; for example, as they look at books together and talk about the pictures and name favourite characters, or copy the noises different animals make. The childminder repeats words to help young children learn new sounds. She uses questioning skilfully as she checks children's understanding and confirms what they know. The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn. She monitors children's progress and shares information about their achievements and areas of learning that need to be given further attention with parents.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle swiftly with the childminder. She works closely with parents and maintains a regular two-way flow of communication. This helps provide children with informed and consistent care. Children learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles. The childminder encourages parents to provide balanced and nutritious food. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise most days. For example, they visit local parks where they can run about, climb and learn about taking safe risks in their play. The childminder works well with her assistant and they provide children with secure and age-appropriate boundaries. Children respond well to the calm and positive role models provided and their behaviour is good.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning. They achieve milestones comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. Younger children are encouraged to develop the physical skills and confidence they need to walk and to explore their surroundings. Children benefit from the attention given to their speaking and listening skills. They learn how to listen, how to share and to respect others. Children are helped to gain the skills they need in readiness for nursery or school.
