Children are supported to develop their communication and language skills. The childminder uses a variety of different questioning techniques and allows children sufficient time to think and answer. Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector checked the outdoor area was safe and secure. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children throughout the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's policies and procedures, children's records and the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults who live at the childminder's home. The inspector took into account the views of parents made available from written references.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands her roles and responsibilities to keep children safe. The childminder makes meaningful evaluations of her service. For example, she has consulted with her local authority advisors and has updated relevant policies and procedures and risk assessments. This means she has now addressed weaknesses raised at her previous inspection. The childminder has conducted risk assessments of her home and for outings. This further ensures children's safety and well-being. The childminder verbally seeks the views of parents in her self-evaluation. Parents comment that they are happy with the flexible service she provides. The childminder has effective systems in place to assist her in observing children and planning to meet the next steps in their learning. Partnerships with other settings children attend are positive and support her to provide a joined-up

approach in meeting children's individual needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts well with children. She uses effective teaching to help them extend their personal, social, emotional and communication and language skills. For example, children snuggle into her and enjoy looking through their own learning journal books. The childminder asks lots of questions about their family members and leaves pauses for children to speak and answer. Children have good small-muscle skills and are becoming critical thinkers. Overall, they enjoy expressing themselves using a variety of different media and complete simple puzzles and shape sorters. Children demonstrate motivation to learn new skills, such as mathematics. For example, they count during everyday routines and activities and sing number rhymes and songs with the childminder.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is attentive to children's needs and they happily approach her for comfort and reassurance. The childminder is a good role model for children. She uses age- appropriate strategies to manage unwanted behaviours and gently reminds children about her expectations. Children are developing good social skills and confidence to do things for themselves. Settling-in sessions are flexible and used well. The childminder uses this time to get to know children and their families. This enables her to follow routines and care practices as discussed with parents. The childminder, generally, makes the most of daily conversations with parents. She uses some written evaluations to keep them informed of their child's care and learning at the setting.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and outgoing individuals. They are developing good independence and social skills. They are motivated and eager to learn new things. Children are gaining an understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For example, they help tidy up and follow good hygiene procedures. Children make good progress in all aspects of their development and are gaining the skills needed for future learning and school.
