Children enjoy their time with the childminder. They form strong bonds and thrive in the warm and caring environment she provides. She knows the children well, and effectively supports their emotional development and well-being. The childminder provides a good range of resources, activities and experiences that overall help to support children in their learning and development. She makes regular accurate assessments of children's progress, and clearly identifies when children may need additional support. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is sometimes too quick to do things for children and misses the opportunities to help them develop their independence skills further. At times, the childminder does not make effective use of planned activities to focus precisely on what children need to learn next.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children as they played, and spoke to them at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector spoke to the childminder's assistant. The inspector sampled documentation including suitability checks, children's records and a selection of written policies. The inspector took note of parents' written views. The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures that she and her assistant keep their knowledge of child protection up to date. For example, they regularly attend training and know what procedures to follow if they have any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder makes realistic and well-considered plans for development and improvement. She seeks the views of others to help her evaluate and reflect on her setting. The childminder makes effective use of opportunities to extend her professional development. For example, she attended training to improve her knowledge and understanding of how to support children's communication and language development further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder very effectively engages parents in the learning and development of their children. For example, she shares regular information about their child's progress and suggests activities their child may enjoy. She also encourages parents to borrow resources to share with their child at home. Children have many opportunities to learn about the natural world. For example, they visit the beach and collect stones and shells to use in the garden. The childminder supports communication development well. For example, as children play peek-a-boo games with fabric the childminder teaches them new words such as 'soft' and 'silky'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy a good range of nutritious meals and snacks provided by the childminder. She encourages healthy, active lifestyles well. For example, children have plenty of opportunities for energetic play at local parks and in the woods. The childminder effectively implements her policies and procedures to support a safe hygienic environment for children. For example, she follows a well-developed nappy changing routine, and makes regular risk assessments to identify and minimise hazards. Children learn about feelings and emotions. For example, they make faces in mirrors and talk about feelings when reading books. The childminder encourages positive behaviour and children behave well for their age.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn many skills to support their move on to pre-school and school. For example, they learn to be sociable and enjoy the company of others. They communicate freely with their friends and adults. They learn to share resources and take turns, for example, when turning pages in books they share with the childminder. They learn how to handle books, which helps to support their early reading skills. Children make good progress in their learning and development from their starting points.
