 The inspector observed activities and reviewed the quality of teaching.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's assessment records, the childminder's planning documentation, and her policies and procedures.  The inspector and the childminder jointly evaluated the effectiveness of an activity.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector examined suitability checks of all adults in the household.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder evaluates her practice thoroughly and seeks the views of parents and children to identify what works well and to target further improvements. Her enthusiasm is highly evident and has an extremely positive impact on children's experiences and the quality of her provision. The childminder makes excellent use of professional development opportunities to build on her knowledge and skills. For example, she has increased her understanding of how to improve children's mathematical development, which has had a significant impact on this area of children's learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a deep understanding of child protection issues, underpinned by her comprehensive policies.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder uses her excellent skills to continually adapt and reshape activities to further challenge children's learning. For example, during art and craft activities, she sets them different levels of challenge. Younger children, engage in meaningful play and exploration of texture, form and shape as they consider how many pieces they have, and what the shapes represent. As children persist in their play, the childminder skilfully extends language or mathematical concepts highly successfully. For example, she models rolling dough into balls and encourages children to count and explore simple addition and subtraction. Children also progress well with their early writing skills, although writing materials are not always as easily available as other resources. The childminder is highly skilful at using her precise observations and assessments to identify plans for children and quickly target their next steps in learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children show high levels of deep concentration as they play, explore and consistently extend their abilities. They celebrate their achievements and successfully try out their own ideas. Children benefit greatly from the highly attentive care they receive from the childminder. They enjoy plenty of cuddles and reassurance, and receive excellent praise that keeps them highly motivated. The childminder helps children to settle quickly and feel emotionally secure. Children learn to be independent and relish taking responsibility for their own personal care, such as brushing their teeth. Outdoors, children are engrossed in many different activities that develop their physical skills and learning.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children make excellent progress. They have excellent attitudes and are highly confident learners. For example, they consistently take risks in their play to master new skills. Children behave extremely well. They resolve their own conflicts and develop exemplary social skills. They are extremely well prepared for their future learning.
