Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's practice and spoke with the children. The inspector examined a range of documentation including parent testimonials. The inspector spoke to the childminder at convenient times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder uses training effectively to improve her teaching skills, for example, to support children's language skills further. She reviews and evaluates her practice regularly to make continuous improvements. She includes the views of parents and children, which has helped her work more closely with parents to follow children's home routines and support their learning. The childminder monitors and records children's progress well. She shares this information with parents and with other settings children attend, ensuring good continuity for children in their care and learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a sound understanding of her responsibilities and the signs of which she should be alert, to take appropriate action if needed.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children's interests and learning well. She is skilled in planning a good range of activities to support individual children's fascinations and encourage their further learning. The childminder has a very good understanding of how to support the individual learning needs of each child in her care including the most able. She supports children's language skills well, for example, by providing new vocabulary during role play, helping them put words to their actions. The childminder regularly takes children on a wide range of outings, for example, to story time at the library and local areas of interest, where they learn to mix and interact with other children, developing good social skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's safety well. She risk assesses her home and places they visit effectively, providing a safe and secure environment where children explore safely. The childminder supports children's emotional well-being well. She listens to the children and values their ideas. Children feel secure, understand the childminder's expectations and behave well. For example, older children listen and respond to her requests and reminders, and take responsibility for tidying away their toys.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy their time with the childminder, for example they talk enthusiastically about the things that they do together and the places that they visit. Children actively engage in their activities and learning, for example, exploring their interest in hospitals and doctors, learning about the different roles. Children develop their independence well. They help to take responsibility for the environment, for example, by remembering to take their off shoes inside and thinking about what to wear to play outside. Children are well prepared for the next stage of their learning and moving on to school.
