This provision is good

 The childminder provides a welcoming area for children to play and learn. Children show that they feel happy and secure in her care. The childminder sets clear routines which help children feel safe and secure.  Good levels of provision have been maintained since the setting's last inspection. The childminder gains the views of parents to add to her self-evaluation, to identify further areas to improve. Parents like the experiences their children have in the setting.  The childminder plans a child-friendly environment with a good range of resources. Children often access these for themselves to help them learn independently.  Children have many opportunities to develop their social skills and self-confidence, such as visiting toddler groups and the local children's centre.  Children behave well. The childminder takes them to the local park and shopping in the community to encourage their physical well-being and to gain a greater understanding

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends relevant training courses to ensure her knowledge of current and new legislation is up to date, especially procedures to protect children. She understands what she must do if she is concerned about the welfare of children in her care. She is very experienced, but is still mindful to assess how she can improve her practice. She makes good use of groups in the community and the local authority courses to enhance her knowledge and skills. She keeps careful records of children's progress to identify any areas where they might need extra support. The childminder ensures the children are kept safe with daily safety risk assessments. She develops strong partnerships with parents and children; this helps children feel secure and they settle quickly.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has good relationships with the children in her care. They respond to her instructions without fuss. She listens carefully to what children are saying and develops their vocabulary well. For example, she knows when to join in with an activity to develop these skills and when to watch and note what children do. Children have access to a variety of resources to develop their curiosity. For example, a child was very excited to see a plastic spider appear to get larger through a magnifying lens. Children learn to develop their small muscle skills by painting and drawing, and they learn how to hold utensils properly.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder encourages children's independence throughout the day and encourages children to tidy up before lunch. Children are encouraged to wash their hands after playing in the garden and before eating. They willingly put on their coats and shoes and take them off after being outside. Some activities help children understand others' emotions and feelings, for example, children enjoyed copying a jigsaw with happy and sad expressions. Books and other resources help develop children's understanding of other faiths and cultures. Children help themselves to water throughout the day. They enjoy healthy snacks and know the benefits of keeping healthy.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They are motivated and persist with activities. Children develop good communication and language skills. They learn to express themselves with confidence. Children develop most key skills needed for their future learning.
