p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The provider and the staff team have a very good understanding of child protection issues. Policies and procedures are reviewed regularly and support staff in ensuring children are kept safe and protected from harm. Daily risk assessments are conducted for the indoor and outdoor areas. Supervision meetings and appraisals help staff to increase their knowledge and skills. Parents receive clear information about their child's learning on a weekly basis. This ensures that parents are fully aware of the early education their children receive.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff ensure that children are meaningfully engaged in activities. They deploy themselves effectively to monitor children's play and offer support when needed. For example, staff challenge children to follow the beat of the music using instruments and body movements. Children's literacy skills are promoted extremely well. During welcome time, children are introduced to the written language and encouraged to sound out the letters they see. Young children can identify letters from their names and become excited when they know words beginning with particular sounds. Staff engage children in meaningful conversations to extend their vocabulary. During a bread-making activity, staff question the children about size, shape and changes to the dough. For example, children talk about the dough coming alive and growing. Children are introduced to quantity and make comparisons to develop their mathematical skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and confident in the setting. A warm, caring and nurturing environment encourages children to develop secure attachments and close friendships. Children quickly develop independence and self-confidence. Children are extremely well behaved and considerate of the needs of others. For example, children tell their friends they will play a game with them once they have finished what they are doing. Children have a good understanding of keeping themselves healthy. Staff introduce children to good handwashing techniques. Children access the outdoor play area frequently throughout the day for fresh air and exercise. The area is well resourced and promotes children's all-round development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children, including those who receive funded early education, are making good progress. Children are enthusiastic and motivated learners who are keen to explore and try new activities. They develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes to learning that prepare them well for starting school. Children engage in a range of activities that actively promotes their early literacy and mathematical skills. They are developing a good understanding of phonics and letter sounds and use this to enhance their learning. Children explore their environment with confidence and feel happy and secure. Children are independent and manage their personal hygiene needs consistently well for their age. Inspection report: Milwich Pre School Lollipops Before And After School Club, 13 October 2016 4 of 5
