Inspection activities
The inspector observed staff engaged in activities with the children indoors and outside. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager. The inspector had discussions with the manager, and looked at a range of policies and children's records. The inspector talked to parents and children, and took account of their views about the provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The manager and staff have an excellent understanding of their responsibilities and are extremely vigilant. They receive training in child protection and know how to identify children who may be at risk of harm. Staff receive excellent support for their professional development and the manager monitors their performance very effectively. Children benefit enormously from the manager's and staff's huge enthusiasm for training and updating their skills. This has enabled them to focus more sharply on how children at different ages and stages communicate including those with special educational needs. Overall, partnerships with parents are very effective. The manager has identified through excellent self-evaluation the need to encourage all parents to engage more to support their children's learning further at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Staff make insightful observations and precise assessments of children's interests and learning. This helps them to plan extremely effectively for the next steps in children's development. Staff provide interesting ways for children to gain excellent early reading skills. For example, staff skilfully show children how to follow a recipe to make play dough, helping them to understand how print carries meaning, and reinforcing their recognition of letters and numbers. Children enjoy exciting challenges, which support their learning extremely well. For example, outside, they count and match toy snakes to a large number line extremely confidently. Staff extend this expertly as they encourage them to make simple calculations and compare quantities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Staff provide an extremely nurturing and calm atmosphere where they continually and gently support the children's excellent behaviour. They very sensitively encourage children to think about how their behaviour affects others, and talk about their feelings. Children benefit from regular outdoor play. They enjoy being physically active, developing their excellent coordination and manipulative skills as staff encourage them to use brushes and sticks to create mud pictures with increasing control. Partnerships with other providers and local schools are extremely effective. For example, local schoolchildren join the nursery for outdoor activities in the forest, and staff regularly share children's achievements with other providers to support excellent consistency in children's learning.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children are extremely confident communicators and develop excellent language skills. They are highly independent and manage their care needs very confidently. Children are exceptionally emotionally secure and socialise very well. They excel in the activities on offer, and develop exceptionally strong skills for their future learning and starting school.
