This provision is good
The childminder has made significant improvements to her practice since the last inspection. She has worked closely with her local authority adviser and addressed all the actions and recommendations raised. The views of parents, children and her assistant are taken into account by the childminder when she evaluates her practice. She clearly identifies areas for development in order to continuously drive forward improvement. The childminder has developed a very effective partnership with parents. She talks to them on a regular basis outlining their children's achievements and advising them about how they can support their children's learning at home. The childminder closely observes children as they play, accurately assessing their developmental stages and interests. This helps her to plan activities that inspire children and provide them with challenges for the next steps in their learning. The childminder builds strong, trusting relationships with the children in her care. This

supports children's emotional well-being, building a secure base from which they are ready and able to learn. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder is an excellent role model. She is calm and applies consistent boundaries to support children's behaviour.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not focus her professional development sufficiently to improve the good quality teaching even further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

focus professional development more sharply on raising the quality of teaching to the highest level to further enhance outcomes for children.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding. She observed the quality of teaching during activities inside and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and her assistant as well as a selection of policies and procedures, including safeguarding. She discussed risk assessments and the childminder's self-evaluation process. The inspector carried out an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. She discussed children's learning and development and sampled their records and looked at the planning documentation. The inspector took account of the written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about the procedures that she should follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. Robust risk assessments and well-written policies and procedures help the childminder to ensure that children are safe at all times. The childminder undertakes required training. However, she has yet to devise a plan for ongoing professional development to increase her knowledge and teaching practice even further. The childminder has recently implemented an online system for assessing and tracking the progress that children are making. This helps the childminder to identify when additional support may be needed. The assistant is effectively supervised by the childminder. Written comments from parents state how happy they are with the care and learning opportunities that the childminder provides for their children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is a good teacher. She understands how children learn and develop through playful experiences. The childminder supports children's language development very well. She skilfully provides a running commentary to describe what children are doing. Young children show confidence as they attempt to copy words that the childminder has introduced to them. The childminder builds on children's interests to enhance their learning. For example, as children have fun playing with a selection of balls, she talks about the colours and how many balls they have collected. Older children have opportunities to observe the changing seasons within the local environment. They enjoy collecting autumn leaves and acorns and make models from them. Children enjoy interacting with the childminder and with visitors. They love to sit and listen to stories. They learn to turn the pages and as they look at pictures of animals they recall songs that

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows children in her care very well. She ensures that she gains a good range of information from parents regarding the individual needs of their children. She offers a gradual settling-in procedure which allows children to settle quickly and easily. The childminder is kind and has a gentle and nurturing approach towards the children. Children develop confidence and independence in their play. They freely access a good range of stimulating toys and resources. In the garden, a range of equipment enables children to enhance their physical skills. Children are supported to follow good hygiene routines and to be independent in their self-care. Children enjoy home-made meals and snacks that are healthy and nutritious.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, are making good progress in their learning and development. They are provided with a broad range of opportunities that captures their interest and enthusiasm. Children are developing important skills that will help them as they move to the next stage in their learning and eventually on to school.
