This provision is good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment that helps children to feel safe and secure. Children are provided with a wide range of good quality resources and they confidently make choices about what to play with. The childminder plans interesting experiences for children based on their interests and learning needs. He uses the local environment, including trips to local parks and museums to enhance their development. The childminder has successfully addressed the weaknesses raised at the last inspection. For example, he works with the co-childminder and other professionals effectively in order to drive improvements in his teaching and promote continuity in children's learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Individual children's learning is not always meticulously planned for. On occasions, information from observations is not used effectively to identify specific next steps in children's learning. The childminder does not always obtain enough information from parents about what their children can do when they first attend the setting. The childminder does not fully take account of the views of parents, in order to help identify where the provision can be improved further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation and evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as risk assessments, policies and procedures. The inspector took account of their views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has comprehensive safeguarding policies in place and has a good understanding of his responsibilities with regard to safeguarding children's welfare. The childminder is committed to providing a safe environment for children to play and explore. He completes thorough risk assessments and his regular checks of the premises promote the safety of children. The childminder has high expectations for all children. He consistently reflects on his practice, in order to continually improve the quality of his teaching and outcomes for children. The childminder ensures he keeps his knowledge of early years practice up to date. He has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements and implements these well.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans fun and challenging activities based upon the children's interests and individual learning styles. This encourages children to be self-motivated and engaged in their learning. Children are encouraged to learn new words as they talk and play with the childminder. For instance, when exploring the different texture of objects or the sound of pasta and rice in different containers, he offers a range of new describing words. The childminder consistently builds on children's mathematical awareness. For example, as children play with the cars, he encourages them to count to help reinforce their number skills. He also provides opportunities for the children to sort vehicles by their size, colour and shape.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's views are valued as they talk about their thoughts and ideas. They develop good attachments with the childminder and are very happy in his care. The childminder is a good role model. He gives children clear explanations of the expectations in the setting. This helps them to learn what is expected and they behave well. The childminder actively supports and nurtures children's independence and choice throughout activities and daily care routines. Parents are complimentary about the care and learning opportunities provided by the childminder and express that it is a home-from-home setting for their children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children listen well and are eager to join in with activities. They acquire the skills and knowledge that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning. Children learn about healthy practices, such as why exercise and healthy food are good for them. They wash their hands without prompting and know why this is important to stay healthy. Children are helpful towards each other and follow simple regular routines that support their emotional well-being.
