This provision is good

 The childminder has built extremely strong relationships with parents. Parents are fully involved in their children's learning and development. Regular and innovative ways of sharing information ensures there is a consistent approach to children's learning.  The childminder is highly committed to making continual improvements. She has a clear vision for the professional development of herself and her assistants. They all attend regular training to increase their knowledge and skills in order to improve the outcomes for children.  The childminder places a high priority on safety. For example, risk assessments are robust and help to ensure hazards are minimised, enabling children to play safely indoors, out in the garden and during outings.  Children make good progress in their learning and development. They are supported well through the positive interaction and good quality teaching provided by the well-

qualified childminder and her assistants. Children have fun while they are learning.  Children display very close attachments to the childminder and her assistants. New children settle very quickly and children's emotional well-being is secure.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not gather enough information from other early years settings to fully complement children's learning experiences elsewhere.  The childminder has not fully established highly effective ways to support her assistants to raise the standard of their practice as high as possible. This means that although teaching is good, children are not supported well enough to make rapid progress in their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 find more innovative ways to gather and share information with all settings where children attend, to develop a truly shared approach to children's learning  find more effective ways to help assistants to build further on their good assessment and teaching skills and increase the potential for children to make rapid progress in their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder, her assistants and children during the inspection.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of all those living or working on the premises and the qualifications of the childminder and her assistants.  The inspector took account of the views of parents by reading their written testimonials.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of safe recruiting procedures. Both the childminder and her assistants are knowledgeable about what to do should they be concerned about a child's welfare. They have a thorough understanding of local procedures and the steps to take to protect children. They also attend training to build on their understanding of current issues and legislation that has a direct impact on safeguarding children. The childminder is successful in reflecting on the quality of her provision. For example, the childminder and her assistants observe each other's practice to help identify strengths and any areas that could be improved. The childminder maintains a range of records and implements policies effectively, in order to ensure the smooth running of her setting.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistants have a good understanding of how children learn through play. They gather important information from parents about what children already know and can do. They then plan activities using this information and their own observations of children's achievements. They successfully build on children's interests and enjoyment. The childminder monitors their progress carefully. She quickly identifies and addresses any gaps in their development. The childminder has a good understanding of how to extend children's learning and joins in successfully to extend their play. For example, she shows them how to fill beakers with dried pasta, counting the pieces one at a time. The childminder extends children's mathematical knowledge further, naming numbers and helping children to recognise them around the room. The childminder and her assistants encourage children's communication and speaking skills in positive ways.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

During activities and daily routines they hold purposeful conversations and use questions effectively to encourage children to think.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well. They learn to respect the differences between themselves and others and to treat each other with respect and consideration. Children develop good social skills and play cooperatively together. They understand that they can keep themselves safe by tidying away the toys so they do not trip on them. The childminder and her assistants have embedded routines which support children in managing their personal care. Children learn about the importance of appropriate hygiene routines. They also benefit from eating healthy snacks and meals that contribute to their good health. There is direct access to the organised and well-resourced garden. Children have daily opportunities for outdoor play to promote their health and physical development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident, motivated and eager learners. They look at books together and listen to stories. Children are encouraged to be independent. Resources are well organised and children easily find what they need. Parents are provided with learning materials so that they can fully support their child's continued learning at home. Children are prepared for their future learning and for their eventual move on to school.
