This provision is good
The childminder monitors his provision effectively, and seeks the views of parents, to identify areas that focus on improving children's experiences. Since his last inspection, the childminder has improved the play spaces and children's access to resources well, helping children to follow their own play ideas. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder supports them well through his positive interactions, building on what they know and can do. The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming environment, where children are motivated to play and explore the interesting play opportunities indoors and outdoors. Children are confident and self-assured. Partnership with parents is effective. The childminder works very closely with parents to build a clear picture of children's interests, learning and care needs. His regular ongoing communication contributes to a consistent approach between the children's home and
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to extend children's learning further during adult- led activities, so they have the time and space to freely explore and think through their ideas. The childminder does not focus planning and his support precisely during some activities, to ensure he covers a wide range of learning opportunities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding. She talked to the children and the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection and observed a variety of activities. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability checks and qualifications of the childminder, as well as a selection of policies and procedures, including safeguarding. She discussed risk assessments and the childminder's self-evaluation process. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. She discussed children's learning and development, looked at their records and the planning documentation. The inspector took account of the views of parents by reading a number of their comments in questionnaires and letters obtained by the childminder. The inspector observed children and the childminder in their play.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder uses risk assessments well to ensure he supervises children closely and keeps them safe. The childminder is clear about his responsibility to safeguard children and report any child protection concerns promptly. The childminder reads early years literature, links with local and national networking groups, and accesses a variety of training to enhance his skills and knowledge further. Recently he has undertaken training focused on children's mathematical development. This has helped him to challenge children more and learn about quantity, measure, counting and early calculation.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder carries out comprehensive observations and assessments to help him plan for children's next steps in their learning. Accurate assessments help him to quickly identify children's stages of development and any gaps in their learning. The childminder understands how children learn. He sensitively joins in with their play, listening attentively to them and supporting their ideas. For example, children enjoy dressing up in outfits depicting people in the community. The childminder uses books as a source of additional information to help them look for and talk about these roles, such as firefighters. Children identify characteristics and learn the names of specific equipment. This gives meaning to what the children are doing and effectively supports their language and literacy skills, and their knowledge of the world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is caring and friendly towards children. Children readily look to him for reassurance and he instinctively reacts to their care needs, helping to develop children's confidence and well-being effectively. The childminder supports children well to learn respect and kindness towards others, helping them to adapt their behaviour and learn to share and take turns. He positively supports children to be active and develop healthy lifestyles. For example, children enjoy being physically active in the garden. They develop good control and coordination of their movements as they push themselves around in play cars, and practise using tools and equipment in the sand and rice play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated learners, keen to achieve. They develop good skills that prepare them well for their future learning and eventual move to school. Children who are learning English as an additional language receive good support to increase their vocabulary, understanding and communication skills. Children confidently make choices and develop good self-confidence and independence, determined to manage tasks for themselves.
