This provision is good
The childminder provides a nurturing and stimulating environment. Children benefit from good quality interactions with her. Children are very well behaved. They take turns, share and are cooperative in their play. Children are eager to join in activities and concentrate well. The childminder monitors children's learning and development effectively. She uses regular observations to identify gaps in learning and she provides activities that challenge children. The childminder provides a range of interesting resources that is easily accessible for children to direct their own play. This helps children to become independent learners. Good relationships with parents are fostered through frequent communication. The childminder provides parents with regular updates about their children's progress. Information is continually shared and this benefits each child's ongoing care, learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to extend children's early mathematical skills. The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to practise their early writing skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked the childminder's policies, children's records and checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and suitability. The inspector took account of the spoken and written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands the responsibilities of her role well. She knows the correct procedures to take in the event of a safeguarding concern and understands the signs that could indicate that a child is at risk of harm. The childminder assesses risks in her home and on outings and makes changes to ensure hazards are minimised. The childminder uses training effectively to make improvements to her teaching. She selects training based on the requirements of the children who attend to enable her to meet their learning and development needs. The childminder reflects well on the quality of her provision to help her identify areas for improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children play in a well-organised environment. The childminder plans learning opportunities in response to children's individual developmental needs and interests. Children explore confidently and are interested and involved as they play. Children make good progress. The childminder is skilled at supporting and extending children's developing ideas, particularly in imaginative activities. For example, young children delight in role play as they pretend to be animals and make appropriate sounds. The childminder promotes children's literacy development effectively. All children enjoy looking at books and even the youngest pick up books to look at by themselves or for the childminder to read to them. The childminder develops children's communication skills well. For example, she repeats words and phrases to model accurate language, and gives children time to respond to questions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder builds firm emotional attachments with children and fully understands their emotional needs. She praises children's achievements which helps them to develop good self-esteem. Children have daily access to the outdoors for fresh air and active play as they go for walks and to the park. The childminder encourages children to follow good hygiene routines and helps them to make healthy food choices. Settling-in arrangements are good. The childminder works in effective partnerships with other agencies to support children's learning needs to ensure any gaps in their achievements are quickly narrowed. Children have good opportunities to develop valuable social skills to help them with moving on to pre-school and school. For example, they visit local groups where they can learn to mix and develop friendships with other children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy their learning and make good progress with the childminder's support. They form close relationships and feel very secure. They gain in confidence and are able to hold conversations and ask questions. They are keen to join in and make independent choices in their play. Children acquire skills they need for their next stage in learning and for their move on to school.
