This provision is good
Children are happy and settled. The childminder helps children build warm and positive relationships with her. Children show high levels of belonging and self-esteem. The quality of teaching is good. The childminder provides children with meaningful experiences that match their interests and ability levels. This helps them to make good progress in their learning. The childminder works hard to form close bonds with parents and children during settling-in periods. She ensures parents have regular updates about their children's learning and development. The childminder accesses professional development opportunities to keep her knowledge up to date and improve her skills. The childminder uses an effective evaluation process to identify areas for improvement. She seeks views from parents and children to help with this process.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not involve parents sufficiently in assessing the progress children make. She does not seek enough information about what children are achieving at home, to help her establish very precisely what children know, understand and can do.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the home used by children. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked the childminder's policies, children's records and checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and suitability. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to promote children's welfare and protect them from harm. She knows how to contact relevant agencies if she has a concern. She has a range of robust policies and procedures to underpin her practice. She updates these regularly and shares them with parents. The childminder shows a commitment to continually developing her knowledge. She attends childminding meetings and accesses training to help develop best practice and to help her further support children in her care. The childminder provides a good selection of resources to match individual children's interests. Partnerships with other settings children may attend are established to help maintain continuity of care and learning for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a range of stimulating activities and children are eager to learn. She carefully observes and tracks children's progress and this enables her to identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder helps children to learn about keeping themselves healthy and they show good awareness of the benefits of eating fruit and vegetables. Children are encouraged to count in everyday routines and the childminder uses her skills to question children's understanding further. The childminder supports children's language development well. She engages them in meaningful conversations and introduces new words. Children are well supported by the childminder and use imaginative ideas as they pretend to prepare, cook and serve food in their role play kitchen. She successfully joins in with children's play to promote and extend their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident and make independent choices in their play. The childminder raises the children's self-esteem by valuing their work which she displays, and by praising their achievements. Children follow good hygiene routines. They have daily opportunities for exercise and fresh air which help to support their physical well-being. The childminder makes good use of opportunities to teach children how to keep themselves and others safe. For example, on outings she teaches them about road safety. Children are encouraged to learn about appropriate ways to behave. The childminder uses a consistent approach to managing their behaviour and encourages children to learn how to share and take turns.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make consistently good progress in relation to their starting points and they are prepared well for the next stage in their learning. They are confident communicators and ask questions to extend their learning. They demonstrate good levels of concentration. Children are keen to learn, independent and sociable.
