This provision is good
The childminder is committed to improving the quality of her provision and has actively sought out appropriate training. For example, she has gained an appropriate childcare qualification a level 3 since her registration. This has had a positive impact on the quality of care and learning that she provides. The childminder keeps parents up to date about their children's development in a number of ways. She also provides suggestions and resources to help them continue with their children's learning at home. The childminder has a good partnership with the schools children attend. She knows what they are learning in school and makes adjustments to her planning to ensure that she continues to fully support their development. The childminder gathers clear information from parents about their children's abilities and care needs before they start. This helps her to be well prepared for when they start.
p.1
This provision is good
Children make their own decisions about what they want to do and are able to select suitable resources independently. Children are inquisitive and eager to play and learn. They make good progress from their starting points and gain the skills they need to be successful in the next stage of their education.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The strategies used to encourage parents to share information about their children's learning at home are not always successful. Although teaching is good, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to help young children develop their language more rapidly.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

explore ways to help parents to share information about what children are learning at home so that a broader picture of children's achievements is gained enhance the quality of teaching that enables children to refine their speech more rapidly as they begin to imitate words and sounds.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documentation, including training certificates and evidence of suitability checks. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has kept up to date with different aspects of safeguarding and the risks children may face. She discussed possible signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect with confidence. The childminder is clear about the procedures that she must implement to help safeguard children. The childminder regularly checks her home, resources and equipment to ensure they are clean, in good condition and appropriate for children to use. Parents are well informed about the childminder's role and responsibilities. She ensures they are able to review her policies and procedures at any time and provides them with information about the early years foundation stage. The childminder seeks the opinions of parents and children to help her assess the quality of her practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes accurate assessments of all children's progress and their next steps in learning. This includes completing the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. The childminder helps children develop good social skills. One way she does this is by providing activities in small groups where children have to share resources and wait patiently for their turn. The childminder also makes good use of activities children initiate themselves. For example, when she observes younger children showing an interest in what others are doing, she successfully encourages them to join in alongside them. Children are creative. They experiment with sound and watch carefully as the childminder shows them how to blow a whistle. Children place coloured scarfs over their faces and giggle as they hide. They count and use numbers in their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a homely environment where children are happy and relaxed. Children's parents are complimentary about the level of support the childminder has offered during stressful times. The genuine affection the childminder shows for their children has helped to reassure them that their children are safe and well cared for. The childminder has a settling-in process that encourages parents to visit with their children before they start. Children are given time to adjust to changes in their daily routine and to develop a relationship with her. The childminder takes children out and about in the local community. This helps to widen their experiences and further develop their understanding of the world around them. Children are supervised well as they take sensible risks in their play, for example, when learning to climb independently on and off a rocker in the garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing the skills they need to solve problems. They enjoy exploring how pieces of jigsaw fit together. They work out that by pressing buttons and turning knobs they can make mechanical toys work. Children learn about nature and caring for living things. They watch butterflies develop from chrysalis, plant and grow vegetables and help to feed pet snails.
