This provision is good
The childminder effectively supports all children to make consistently good progress in learning. Her accurate observations help her to monitor children's progress well, to identify and address any gaps and plan effectively for their individual needs. The childminder's thorough self-evaluation helps her to focus well on making improvements that help her provide consistently good outcomes for children. For example, she successfully encourages parents' ongoing involvement in their children's learning, and uses information from home effectively in assessments and planning. The childminder has very good relationships with other settings children attend. They plan well together to provide children with consistent learning objectives. The childminder is a good role model and teaches children well about care and respect for others. Children respond positively and politely towards each other. They eagerly

take part in activities and explore resources. Children's self-esteem is very good. They show through their high levels of confidence that they feel emotionally secure.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children enjoy art and craft projects, but have fewer opportunities to express themselves creatively in activities. Experiences outdoors do not consistently provide a wide range of learning opportunities for children who prefer to learn outdoors.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more opportunities for children to use different media to express their own ideas creatively extend resources to provide further challenge for children who prefer to learn outdoors.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children engaged in learning activities. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation and how effectively she monitors children's learning. The inspector checked that required records are in place, including procedures to safeguard children, and assessed the childminder's understanding of how to implement these. The inspector read feedback from parents and talked to children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder continually seeks to develop her skills to further extend children's learning. She monitors her effectiveness well to help her identify areas to address including training opportunities. For example, training has helped the childminder to stand back and observe how children use resources in their own way to achieve what they want to do. This has led children to experiment more such as using different types of bricks to build a bridge for the toy dinosaurs to cross. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her local safeguarding procedures. She is clear about how to follow these to help protect children from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her good knowledge of children to plan interesting and challenging activities that support their learning well. For example, she uses their love of dinosaurs to develop their communication and language as she encourages children to name them and talk about what they know. The childminder encouraged children to compare the dinosaur models to pictures in books and to look them up on the internet, to extend their knowledge further. The childminder encourages children's understanding of mathematics effectively. For example, with the childminder's help, they weighed, measured and counted ingredients to bake and decorate cakes to celebrate a birthday. The childminder extended children very well, encouraging them to talk about family birthday parties and other celebrations where there may be cake such as weddings and Christmas. The childminder encourages children to exercise and they learn well about their bodies. For

example, children hold out their arms as they walk a narrow line to help them balance.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children learn well about their local community and enjoy talking about places that they like to visit. Their regular walks with the childminder help to extend their learning well as they put their good safety awareness into practice. For example, coming back from pre- school, children knew where the safest crossing places were and they talked about being able to see in all directions to be safe. Children's understanding of hygiene is good. For example, they explained they must put dropped food in the bin because although the floor is clean 'there is dirt you cannot see'.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning including going to school. They are independent and cooperate very well as they play together, sharing their ideas and talking about how to achieve common goals. For example, children building a den collected the materials they needed and experimented with different ways of arranging these until they were all satisfied with the result.
