This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder provides a wide range of activities that successfully build on children's interests and needs. Children make good progress. The childminder assesses and evaluates children's learning effectively. She uses this information to develop future planning and identify the children's next steps in learning. The childminder has good relationships with children. She provides a very warm and welcoming environment where they feel settled and behave well. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder regularly exchanges information with parents about children's development and achievement. They work together successfully to meet children's needs. The childminder accurately evaluates the quality of her practice and takes strong steps to develop it. She has a clear vision for her continuous professional development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to fully encourage children's early understanding of sounds and letters. Children are not always fully supported to make independent choices about their play and learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector observed activities inside the home and outside in the garden. The inspector and the childminder discussed teaching and its impact on children's learning. The inspector looked at children's records, planning and a range of other documents, including training certificates. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at various times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures. She is very clear about the processes she would follow if she had any concerns about children's welfare. She attends regular training to ensure that her safeguarding knowledge is up to date. She carries out risk assessments on her home and all outings she takes with children to ensure their safety. She works well in partnerships with other early years professionals. She undertakes regular training, for example, through communicating with the local children's centre and childminders' forums. She includes feedback from parents to improve the quality of her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes the most of every opportunity to develop children's communication skills. For example, she responds sensitively to children as they speak and repeats the correct pronunciation of words. She widens children's vocabulary successfully, for example, as they expressed excitement and wonder when blowing and chasing bubbles in the garden. She develops children's understanding of numbers effectively. For example, children confidently count leaves when creating pictures with their autumn leaf collections. The childminder extends this further by encouraging children to count on 'more than, less than' and to begin to understand 'longer and shorter than'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle quickly in the childminder's care. She offers flexible settling-in sessions that closely meet their emotional needs. The childminder is a good role model. She uses calm and consistent strategies for behaviour. Children behave well, share and take turns. They are encouraged to lead healthy lifestyles. For example, the childminder provides nutritious, home-cooked meals and fresh fruit for snacks. Children enjoy regular fresh air and exercise, for example, on visits to local country parks, farms and play centres. The childminder gives children a wide range of experiences that develop their understanding of cultures and communities beyond their own.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including school. They achieve well in speaking, listening, physical, and personal development. They concentrate well and become very interested in reading. For example, children show their interest by dressing up as favourite story characters and acting out their own storylines. They learn to use small tools skilfully, for example, when using brushes and glue to create pictures. Children learn to count well, for example, when counting the number of spadefuls of compost to fill their pots when planting bulbs.
