This provision is good
The childminder is a good role model and sets clear, age-appropriate house rules. She gently reminds children of these rules throughout the day, such as using good manners, being kind, sharing and taking turns. The childminder is dedicated to further improving her knowledge and skills. She completes additional training, regularly seeks out new information and keeps up to date with current changes. All children make good progress from their starting points. They are happy, settled and establish a motivated attitude towards learning new skills. Children's progress is regularly reviewed and activities are planned to meet their individual needs and next steps in development. Assessments of children's learning are effective. This enables the childminder to identify any gaps in a child's development so she is able to provide additional support.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder evaluates her practice accurately, she does not routinely ask parents and children for their views so they can give ideas for future developments. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend children's understanding of how to follow a healthy lifestyle, such as the importance of eating healthy foods and good hygiene.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and engaged with the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector and the childminder evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together. The inspector viewed the spaces, toys and equipment used for childminding purposes indoors and outdoors. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including self-evaluation, policies and the children's development records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about the steps to take to report any concerns in regard to child protection issues. She is confident in her knowledge to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. The childminder ensures children are safe in her home, garden and during outings. She supervises children effectively during outings and teaches them about the potential risks when near or when crossing roads. Partnerships with parents and other settings children attend are effective and positively support continuity of care and learning. For example, the childminder shares a range of information through displays, discussions, online development records and documentation.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy spending time with this enthusiastic childminder. She interacts well with children to focus and engage their attention. Children confidently share their ideas. For example, they talk to the childminder about how they are caring for their dolls and decide they want to make a doll's bed. The childminder asks the children questions and tests their understanding well. She uses a range of effective teaching strategies such as asking children to think of a solution to a problem. Children are confident communicators and are developing good social skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is sensitive, caring and kind towards children. She knows the children very well and adheres to all their care needs. This helps to build strong relationships and supports their emotional well-being. Children listen carefully to the childminder at all times and their behaviour is good. The childminder provides ample opportunities for children to access fresh air and exercise. Children attend different community groups and play centres. This helps children develop their physical skills and learn about other people and their local community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager and interested learners and they develop the skills which support their future learning and prepare them well for school. Children have the space, time and impulse to test things out. Children are keen to attend to their own needs. For instance, they confidently seek their own footwear when going outside and clear their bowl from the table after snack time.
