This provision is good
The childminder supports young children's early speaking skills well. For example, she narrates what children are doing while they play and introduces new vocabulary. Children benefit from strong relationships with the childminder. She knows the children's individual routines and personalities. Children are happy and settled in her care and their emotional well-being is supported effectively. The childminder is committed to providing good quality care and has high expectations of children. She is dedicated to making continual improvements to her practice and gathers feedback from parents to contribute to her evaluations. The childminder gathers information about children's learning through precise observations. She plans suitably challenging activities that focus on children's individual next steps in learning. Children make good progress across all areas. The childminder has a thorough understanding of the early years requirements and

keeps herself up to date with current legislation. For example, she meets with other professionals to discuss ideas about good practice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder carries out small manageable tasks for children rather than recognising the opportunity to encourage them to try things for themselves. The childminder does not always seize opportunities that arise to extend children's thinking and learning skills during activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make the most of everyday opportunities for children to develop their independence even further build more fully on children's interest in activities to extend their learning as fully as possible.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector engaged with the children during the inspection. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector observed the children during their indoor and outdoor play activities, as well as their snack routine. The inspector sampled various documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation form, risk assessments and a selection of policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and continues to access a range of courses that develops her skills to work with children. For example, she has recently attended a course that has helped her consider how the children use her space and access resources. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has procedures in place to assess and minimise risks to children. She has a good understanding of what to do should she have a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder monitors children's development effectively. She quickly identifies any gaps in their learning and successfully supports children to progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder follows the children's lead during play and provides activities based around their individual interests. She involves herself in children's play and adapts her language based on the child's age and stage of learning. For example, with children who speak English as an additional language, the childminder repeats words in the child's home language and English to develop their understanding of the two. Older children develop their mathematical knowledge, such as exploring quantities. The childminder supports them to use words such as 'big', 'small', 'heavy' and 'light' in their play. Children eagerly investigate textures as they handle and explore materials, such as sand and soil. The childminder works closely with parents before children start so she has a good understanding of each child's learning and development needs. She regularly shares information with parents and keeps them up to date with their children's achievements.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very caring. She values and respects children's views and achievements, fostering their self-esteem. For example, children's art work is celebrated as it is displayed at the low-level art gallery for all to see. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles and supports their physical well-being. For example, she encourages children to participate in outdoor play and supports them to eat healthy and nutritious meals. Children are very well behaved. The childminder sets clear age- appropriate boundaries and gently reminds children of these during the day. Children learn how to manage their own safety, for example, they learn about road safety.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing good personal, social and emotional skills. They are highly confident and are keen to join in activities and try new experiences. For example, children delight in using one-handed tools to undo screws and put them back together. All children are making good progress in their learning and development and are well prepared for their next stage of learning.
