This provision is good

 The childminder evaluates her practice effectively. Parents' and children's views form an integral part of the evaluation process, enabling the childminder to continually raise standards.  The childminder has strong bonds with the children. She is very aware of their physical and emotional needs and successfully alters activities to help ensure the best outcomes and learning experiences for the children.  Children engage in learning with the skilful interactions of the childminder. Children make good progress in their learning and development across all areas.  The childminder provides a stimulating environment indoors and outdoors. Children access a wide variety of resources that provide challenges and opportunities to develop skills in all areas of learning.  The childminder has strong relationships with the parents and the partnering school. She offers a consistent approach to children's learning and care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder occasionally misses opportunities for children to access resources that allow them to engage in role play based on their own experiences.  The childminder does not review her observations of children's learning consistently to help further inform future planning of activities even more precisely.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend opportunities for children to explore imaginative play based upon their own real-life experiences  develop the existing methods of observation to enable a more precise approach to planning for children's next steps.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the setting inside and outside.  The inspector looked at a sample of children's records, planning and other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account of parents' views through written feedback provided on the day.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder continually improves her setting. For example, she has developed the outdoor area to extend children's literacy skills and has created a space for children to make marks and practise early writing. The childminder has a good commitment to her development and has gained a professional qualification since the last inspection. This has strengthened how she supports the development of children's early language skills. For example, she now has a greater knowledge of how to build upon children's existing vocabulary. The childminder effectively monitors the progress that children make. She quickly identifies children that require some additional help and works with parents and professionals to help them catch up quickly. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements thorough procedures to protect children's welfare and has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe, including from extreme views and behaviours.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of the children's current stage of learning and their next steps. She makes thorough assessments to identify their learning needs. She plans exciting and challenging activities that motivate children to learn. The childminder is skilful in her teaching methods and uses all opportunities to extend children's learning. For example, children build on their awareness of the wider world and extend their physical, language and mathematical skills during an autumn walk. The childminder encourages even young children to explore textures and be fully involved in creative activities. For example, they enjoy singing and music sessions.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps children to feel happy, confident and settle quickly. She has a very calm nature and children seek her out for comfort or to share experiences with her. The childminder encourages positive behaviours and is an excellent role model. Children behave very well. The childminder encourages children's independence and helps them to make healthy food choices to support their good health. Children learn how to manage risks in safe surroundings. For example, when picking blackberries the childminder showed them the prickles on the bush and explained how to pick the blackberries without touching them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children achieve the milestones typical for their age across all areas of development. They develop social skills, are independent and ready for the next stage in their learning. Children develop a secure knowledge of early reading and enjoy a wide variety of interesting experiences. For example, they recognise their name in print on their personal placemats and enjoy sharing favourite stories with the childminder.
