This provision is good
Observation and assessment of children's learning is effective. The childminder observes children to help her understand their level of development, interests and identify appropriate next steps. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has good relationships with parents. She has high regard for the information that parents provide before their children start. She incorporates this into her daily planning to help children settle quickly. The childminder knows children well and has secure relationships with them. Children seek her out for reassurance, affection and to be part of their play. The childminder has good relationships with other settings that children attend. She understands the importance of sharing information about children's development to help provide children with a consistent approach. The childminder has a good attitude towards continuous improvement. She keeps her

knowledge and understanding of practice and legislation up to date. For example, she subscribes to relevant websites and shares ideas with other professionals.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently allow children enough time to think and respond to her questions during play. The childminder does not fully encourage all possible opportunities to develop children's independence skills further or their understanding of taking responsibility.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the indoor environment and the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection, discussed children's next steps, progress and individual planning. The inspector viewed a range of written documents including policies, children's records and risk assessments. The inspector viewed all areas of the home which are used by children. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the procedures she would follow if she had concerns about children's safety. The childminder ensures she is up to date with current legislation and her written policies clearly explain her role to parents. The childminder checks her home effectively and identifies and minimises any possible risks to children. For example, she regularly cleans and sterilises toys to minimise the spread of germs. The childminder evaluates her practice and provision well and includes the views of parents. She talks to parents about the suggestions they provide and makes changes where possible. For example, attending more toddler groups to further support children's social skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a stimulating environment where children can explore and make decisions about their play. The childminder uses children's current interests to support their learning and development. For example, while children care for their 'babies', the childminder encourages them to count how many they have and name different foods that they think they would like to eat. The childminder monitors children's development effectively and completes written assessments to show the progress they have made. The childminder is a good role model. She supports children as they sing their favourite nursery rhymes. For example, she sings with them and shows them how to do the relevant actions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows the children well. For instance, she has a good understanding of their routines and quickly recognises signs of tiredness. The childminder adheres to children's individual routines, which helps support their emotional well-being. Children have daily opportunities for physical play. For example, the childminder's garden has a range of equipment such as slides, climbing apparatus and ride-on toys. The childminder also plans visits to other places of interest such as parks, woodlands and farms. Children behave well and play alongside one another happily. Children are learning to share and take turns, which the childminder praises highly.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are inquisitive learners who are not afraid to have a go and try out new things. For example, children persevered as they discovered that buttons on an electronic toy produced different sounds. They quickly understood that their actions had consequences and were proud of their achievements. Children are making good progress in preparation for future learning and their move to school.
