carers about children's learning, or always encourage them to share information about learning at home.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder maintains good communication with her co-childminder to ensure that children are checked on regularly when they are sleeping. The childminder helps children develop warm and trusting bonds with her that help them to settle in. She attends to their needs and routines consistently throughout the day. The childminder provides children with age-appropriate toys and resources that they can freely access to explore and develop their own ideas.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed the planning of activities with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of training. The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder has not yet developed a system to ensure that she is meeting all of the requirements well enough, particularly with regards to supporting children's learning. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of safeguarding issues. She has a secure understanding of what to do if she has any concerns about a child's safety or welfare. The childminder promotes children's safety effectively within the premises. She ensures that risks and hazards are minimised and that children use appropriate toys and equipment. The childminder does gather the views of parents and carers and analyses this information to establish where they feel practice needs to improve.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder assesses children's learning and development appropriately. However, she does not always make the best possible use of this information. She does not focus her planning of activities to help children to consistently build on what they already know. On occasions, activities lack challenge for most-able children. The childminder occasionally repeats her teaching unnecessarily when children are already very secure in their learning. Nevertheless, the childminder does provide some effective support for learning. She helps younger children to develop their physical skills, for example, helping them with standing and walking. When in conversation with children, she will often repeat and extend what they have said to support their language development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder does not always review children's progress between the ages of two and three years. Therefore, she is not ensuring that she shares important information about children's development with parents, carers and other professionals. Overall, the childminder is effective in teaching children to learn about how to manage their own feelings and behaviour. The childminder makes effective use of the environment to promote children's enjoyment, confidence, good health and safety. She consistently promotes children's independence in managing their personal care. The childminder encourages children to explore all of the play space, toys and resources. She helps children to recognise the importance of good hygiene practice, for example, she makes sure they know why you need to wash your hands before eating. The childminder positively encourages parents and carers to be fully involved in the settling-in process for
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Weaknesses in practice mean that children are not yet supported to make good progress in their learning. Children participate in activities, but occasionally become disengaged because of the lack of challenge and stimulation. Children do develop their independence and other skills, such as counting, to prepare them for their future learning.
