This provision is good
The childminder makes good use of the knowledge and skills she has gained through training and the research she has conducted. She uses her improved awareness to enhance her practice and improve outcomes for children. The childminder has improved her provision since the last inspection. Children are confident and motivated to learn. They are cared for well, feel safe and are prepared well for their future move to pre-school and school. Children behave well. The childminder assesses children's progress carefully. She uses this information to plan a stimulating range of activities that help children to learn effectively. She engages children well through typically effective teaching and purposeful play. Children are independent and initiate their own ideas to extend their learning. The childminder provides a safe environment in which children happily play and explore. All children make good progress, given what they know when they start.
p.1
This provision is good

p.1

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and reviewed the quality of teaching. The inspector looked at a range of documentation including children's assessment records, planning documentation, policies and procedures. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector examined suitability checks of all adults in the household.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures her home is safe and she has a secure knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. She is clear who to contact should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder understands her responsibility in meeting the early years foundation stage requirements. She has used her improved expertise to improve the quality of her teaching and children's learning since the last inspection. The childminder checks children's progress carefully to identify if they need extra help or support. She works well with parents and keeps them informed of her approaches by sharing her policies and documentation. The childminder communicates well with parents. She provides daily information about their children's progress, which they appreciate.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's learning. She encourages children to explore the good range of activities indoors and outdoors. She plans appropriately, knowing when to intervene in children's learning and when to allow them to take the lead. The childminder knows the importance of helping children to develop strong communication and language skills to support their future learning. For example, she skilfully talks to them as they play and helps them learn the words to describe their actions. The childminder develops children's speaking abilities, such as by singing songs, and she repeats words back to children to help them learn new words. She sensitively monitors children's interest in writing and encourages them to write, for example, by encouraging them to write their first name when they are able to.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are settled and confident in their play. The childminder is mindful of helping children to be aware of hazards in the home and when outside. This helps them to learn about keeping themselves safe. Children practise and develop good personal care habits, such as washing their hands. They know about simple ways to stay healthy, such as keeping warm in winter, eating well and keeping active to support their well-being. Children develop their simple understanding of others from differing backgrounds, such as when they meet others when making visits away from the setting.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. They learn to express themselves well and be mostly independent with particular regard to their personal care needs. Children recognise numbers and shapes and understand that print has meaning. Children gain confidence in using key skills in preparation for the next stage in their learning.
