This provision is good

 The childminder provides welcoming and stimulating environments for children. She makes sure children have plenty of play materials linked to their interests. Children make choices about how they want to learn. They are eager and keen to join in activities.  The childminder is a good role model. She encourages children to think about others. Children's behaviour is good.  The childminder watches what children are doing and monitors their ongoing achievements well. She plans activities that meet their needs. Children make good progress in their learning.  The childminder has made good use of external support and training, for example, to continue her professional development. She has increased her knowledge about how children learn and how she can support them to develop further.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently give children sufficient time to think about and solve problems on their own before offering additional suggestions or help.  The childminder misses opportunities to gather information from parents to help her identify improvements and support children's learning and development even more.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make sure children have time to think and solve problems when engaged in activities, to support better their learning and development  develop more ways to gain parents' ideas and suggestions to inform self-evaluation and target further areas for improvement to benefit children.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching in the home and outside.  The inspector took into account the views of parents through written testimonials.  The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of children's learning with the childminder.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled paperwork, including children's records, planning and self- evaluation.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has improved her provision since the last inspection. For example, she has added a splash pool to her garden, following children's interest in water play during a visit to a play park in the local bird sanctuary. She has built good relationships with other providers and shares information about what children are doing well, to provide continuity in their care and learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to support children's welfare. She has reviewed all her risk assessments to help keep children safe as they play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides activities based on children's interests to extend their learning. For example, children were keen to build a new interactive puzzle based on some of their favourite characters. The childminder teaches children mathematics well. For example, she supported children to match the shadow or badge to a character on the puzzle, and to count items and identify colours for the different vehicles the character drove. Children loved the rewarding beep from the electronic pen as they made the right choice. Children develop and use their imagination well. For example, they shared books together, asking each other questions and selecting the right colours to match the pictures.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder teaches children about making healthy food choices. For example, during lunch she supported children to engage in conversation about the benefits of eating tomatoes and broccoli. The childminder helps children to be kind to each other. She reminds them to take turns and support others as they play and explore together, and to share toys. Children develop good physical skills and learn to care for others. For example, she takes children to local parks and the bird sanctuary, where they climb on large play equipment and feed the birds.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress with the childminder. They develop self-care skills, such as opening their own packets in lunchboxes and putting on their socks and shoes to go outside. They learn to manage and assess risks, for example, they know to stop on the pavement and wait for the childminder to check for cars before crossing the road. The childminder prepares children for moving on well, including through visits to toddler groups and playgroups, and collecting older children from school.
