This provision is good

 The childminder is receptive to children's individual needs. She uses her good knowledge of children's interests and abilities to plan stimulating activities. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points.  The childminder has strong partnership with parents. She regularly shares information with parents about children's progress. This helps to encourage continuity in children's learning and development.  Children learn how to behave well. The childminder is a positive role model and gives them gentle reminders about rules and expectations. Children follow instructions well and use good manners.  The childminder is committed to keeping her knowledge up to date. For example, she completes training and shares ideas with other early years professionals.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always provide a wide range of opportunities for children to take part in activities that help to extend their large muscle skills even further.  The childminder does not organise the toys and resources well enough to help children make independent choices in their play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend opportunities for children to take part in activities that help to increase their physical skills even further  review the organisation of resources, particularly to support children to make their own choices and extend their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed all areas of the home used by the children.  The inspector observed children participating in activities and interacting with the childminder.  The inspector looked at documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to protect children and knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns about their welfare. She continually assesses any risks to children and takes appropriate action to minimise any hazards. The childminder has updated her knowledge of early years practice since her registration and reflects well on the strengths of her setting. For example, she has completed training about how to support children's behaviour. The childminder monitors children's progress closely to identify and plan for their next steps in learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder carries out regular observations and assessments of children's learning and identifies their next stages in development effectively. She follows the children's interests closely to ensure they remain engaged in activities. For example, children excitedly talk about colours as they build with blocks. The childminder supports children's language development effectively. For example, she speaks clearly, repeats words back to children and gives them time to think and respond to questions. The childminder supports children's mathematical learning well. For instance, she introduces language such as 'bigger' and 'smaller', and encourages children to count and to recognise colours.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and settled in the welcoming environment. The childminder implements an effective settling-in procedure to help children feel safe and secure. The childminder helps to protect children and keep them healthy. For example, she provides healthy foods and children have daily access to the garden. Children learn to respect the differences between themselves and others. For example, the childminder talks to the children about people different to themselves. Children dress up in their cultural outfits for birthday celebrations. Children learn to manage their personal care needs well. For example, they take off their shoes and wash they hands at appropriate times.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development. Children develop early writing skills. For example, they use paint and pencils to make marks. The childminder supports children's understanding of the world around them successfully. For example, they visit local parks and play groups. Children become active learners and develop the skills they need for their next stage in learning.
