This provision is good

 The childminder has made positive developments to her practice since the last inspection to improve outcomes for children.  The childminder knows children well. She provides engaging activities that suit their levels of development.  Children make good progress and enjoy their play and learning.  The childminder is a positive role model and children develop a good understanding of behavioural expectations.  Children have good opportunities to learn about the importance of safety procedures and healthy lifestyles.  The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding procedures. She supervises children effectively to help keep them safe.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to broaden children's vocabulary during their play experiences.  The childminder is not fully successful in planning exciting writing experiences to encourage reluctant writers to make marks.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend opportunities for children to hear and build up vocabulary that reflects the breadth of their learning experiences  develop opportunities for children who are reluctant writers to explore a wider range of meaningful and exciting writing experiences.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors.  The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together.  The inspector talked to the childminder about aspects of her practice throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records, evidence of the childminder's training records and written comments from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since the last inspection the childminder has developed her assessment and planning procedures. For example, following training she effectively matches activities to children's learning needs. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to recognise and respond to any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder reflects on her practice well, taking account of the views of parents and carers. Parents comment that she is supportive and welcoming, and that their children are happy and confident. The childminder supports and guides her assistant.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Since the last inspection, the childminder has improved partnerships with parents and other professionals to develop consistency in children's care and learning. She works closely with other settings that children attend to help address any gaps in learning. The childminder guides parents effectively to support their children's learning at home. For example, she loans play resources that children can enjoy sharing with their parents. The childminder plans thoughtful experiences to encourage children to be curious learners. For example, she makes large egg shapes from ice and challenges children to work out how to free the toy dinosaurs hidden inside. The childminder follows children's interests and demonstrates new ideas to extend their learning successfully overall.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder encourages children's independence and recognises the need to challenge children who are physically agile and adventurous. For example, she enables them to explore large-scale equipment with confidence, while helping them to think about how to stay safe. The childminder encourages energetic activities and good hygiene practices to support children's health. She provides nutritious food and, for instance, involves children in discussions about this to support their understanding. The childminder helps children to develop good behaviour, for example, to share and take turns. She teaches them to respect people who are different from themselves, for example, by celebrating different cultural festivals.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children progress well, ready for their next steps in learning and future school lives. They catch up in areas of learning where they need more support and continue to thrive in areas where they are exceeding expectations. Children develop speech and language skills well to communicate their thoughts and ideas. They develop good muscle control and confidence during physical activities. Children are outgoing towards unfamiliar people, showing that they feel secure and safe in the childminder's care. They enjoy exploring the world around them and respond well to challenges.
