This provision is good

 The childminder helps the children to make good progress with their learning and development. For example, she uses their interests to plan good-quality activities.  The childminder reflects on her practice and that of her co-minder effectively. She works closely with parents and the children to review the service she provides. She uses any information she gathers to help shape her service successfully. For example, following feedback from parents, the childminder teaches the children Spanish as well as English.  Children develop good independence skills. The childminder takes every opportunity to teach children how to be independent. For example, she teaches them how to put on their own shoes before they play outside.  The childminder is consistent in her approach to behaviour management. She works effectively alongside her co-minder to teach children about the importance of sharing and using kind hands. Children behave well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the background noise results in children struggling to hear and respond to instructions as they play.  The childminder does not take every opportunity to fully support children's physical development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enable children to concentrate, listen and respond during their everyday experiences, to build on their language and communication skills  strengthen opportunities for children to practise their small-muscle movements.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children in the main play area and the garden.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector spoke with the childminder about self-evaluation.  The inspector sampled documents, including children's files and safeguarding policies.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a strong understanding of child protection issues. She is fully aware of what procedures to follow if she has any concerns regarding children's welfare. The childminder keeps up to date with any changes to legislation, helping her to keep children safe. She continually develops her knowledge in a variety of ways to improve her skills. For example, she attends forums and reads articles to help her provide good-quality care and learning for the children. The childminder works well with others to help her to improve the service she provides. For instance, she works with her co-minder to assess the quality of activities and care they provide for the children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder assesses children's individual needs with success. She knows the children well and effectively uses this information to plan good-quality activities. This helps the childminder to successfully extend children's learning and development. For example, she teaches the children to hold up shells to their ears and listen to the sound. She encourages them to discuss what they can hear. This helps to support children's language development effectively. The childminder monitors children's development and clearly identifies any gaps in their learning. She successfully uses this information to plan activities to help her to narrow these gaps.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop positive relationships with the childminder, which helps them settle quickly and they are ready to start their learning as soon as they arrive. The childminder teaches the children about their own emotional development. For instance, as they play with musical instruments she encourages them to look in the mirror. She talks to them about how happy they look as they bang the drums. This causes children to giggle even more as they see their faces.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are gaining the confidence to progress to the next stages of their learning. They eagerly try new experiences, such as exploring getting messy with paint. They talk about the feel and texture of the paint, which encourages their language development. Children enjoy learning how to play different musical instruments, such as castanets, and enjoy moving to the music in different ways.
