This provision is good

 Children are happy, confident and enjoy their time with the childminder. For example, they jump up and down with excitement when different activities are introduced.  The childminder uses the information from her assessments well to plan for children's next stage in learning. Children make good progress and any gaps in their development are consistently closing.  The childminder provides regular opportunities to involve parents in their children's learning. For instance, she offers an online system, books and home learning sheets. This helps parents to continue their children's learning at home.  Children have opportunities to choose their own play and activities. For example, they are easily able to access the wide range of resources available to them.  The childminder seeks the views of parents and children to help evaluate her service well. This helps her improve the quality of the provision and develop better outcomes

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not encourage children to explore and investigate a wide range of materials and textures using all their senses.  The childminder does not consistently provide children with opportunities to do things for themselves and further develop their independence.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on opportunities for children to investigate a wider range of different materials and textures  increase opportunities for children to do things for themselves and fully develop their independence.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning and development.  The inspector viewed all the premises used for childminding.  The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including suitability checks and children's records.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector took account of parents' written views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the signs that would cause her concern about a child's welfare and the processes to follow. She is aware of her duty to prevent children from being drawn into situations that may put them at risk of harm. The childminder monitors children's progress well. For example, she uses online trackers and completes regular reviews of their learning. This helps her identify any gaps in development early and provide the appropriate support. The childminder improves her knowledge and skills. For instance, she attends regular training. Parents comment that they are very happy with the service the childminder offers.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows how to support children's learning and development effectively. She provides opportunities for children who speak English as an additional language to use and develop their home languages. For example, she learns key words, provides books and posters reflecting their individual backgrounds. This helps children build their communication and language skills in preparation for their move to school. The childminder supports children's mathematical skills well. For example, she encourages them to recognise shapes and uses a range of mathematical language. The childminder recognises when children's interest is fading and adapts activities to help keep their motivation and engagement in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming environment. Children form secure emotional attachments and positive relationships with her. The childminder helps children build confidence in their own abilities. For example, she provides them with positive praise and a 'high five'. The childminder supports children's physical health. For instance, she provides daily opportunities to be physically active and encourages healthy options at mealtimes. The childminder provides clear guidance and explanations to help children manage their behaviour, such as encouraging sharing and taking turns.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make progress appropriate for their age and gain the skills they need for their future learning. They form good relationships with their peers. For example, they find a toy camera and take a 'selfie' together. Children build their physical development well. For instance, they turn levers and use keys to open doors. They successfully use their imagination in play. For example, they use their 'fairy wand' to turn adults into frogs and they pretend to be doctors.
