This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Although managers have put suitable arrangements in place to address the quality of staff practice, there is still inconsistency in the quality of teaching. Methods to make improvements have not been focused or effective enough to ensure that staff practice is consistently good across the nursery. Staff involved in preparing and handling food have not received training in food hygiene. Management has failed to update the nursery's complaints policy to ensure procedures include notifying complainants of the outcome of the investigation within 28 days of having received the complaint. On occasions, staff complete tasks for children that they are capable of doing for themselves. Staff do not do enough to extend children's awareness that print carries meaning.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Parents are complimentary about the nursery and say that staff are approachable and supportive of children's needs. Staff regularly exchange information with parents about children's daily experiences and care routines. Children's behaviour is good. Practitioners are positive role models who help children to learn to share, take turns and respect others. Staff work well with other early years settings, including schools that children attend, to enable them to take a consistent approach to children's learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the nursery with the manager and deputy manager. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection. She held a meeting with the manager. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including records of staff suitability checks, self-evaluation, observation, assessment and planning records, and documentation linked to monitoring children's progress. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the manager. The inspector took into account the views of parents spoken to on the day of inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The staff team has made some progress since their last inspection. However, there are still some inconsistencies in the quality of teaching. Staff have regular meetings to discuss their practice and individual training needs. The recruitment of staff is robust. The manager carries out suitability checks and obtains appropriate references. Safeguarding is effective. The manager and staff have a secure knowledge of what to do if they have concerns about the children in their care. Staff undertake risk assessments daily and request all visitors to show their identification on arrival and sign in and out of the nursery. The manager monitors children's development to enable her to identify any gaps in children's learning and to seek early intervention if needed. Managers use continuous evaluation to identify areas for improvement to benefit children, taking into account the views of staff, children and parents. However, this is not effective, as management has

failed to identify weaknessess in staff practice and ensure that improvements are made. They have also failed to identify that the complaints policy for the nursery does not reflect requirements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Staff complete observations and assessments and plan the next steps in children's learning. However, some staff supervise activities but do not always actively get involved to extend and consolidate the learning taking place. Younger children are developing an interest in stories and rhymes. Staff support the development of language and communication skills, particularly for those who speak English as an additional language. They engage children in interesting conversations. Children are developing their mathematical skills through counting and comparing sizes during activities and routines. They are able to choose from a range of resources and lead their own play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children build emotional attachments with staff. Staff regularly praise children for having a go and trying new things. Some staff are bilingual and speak to children in their home language. This supports them to settle and feel safe and secure. Children enjoy healthy snacks and drinks. However, staff have not received food hygiene training to make sure their knowledge of safe practice is current. Children have opportunities to learn about the wider world. They enjoy going on outings in the local community to the park and shops. Children have fun collecting leaves and conkers on their walk. They talk about the different colours, shapes and sizes.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Weaknesses in teaching mean that some children do not make consistently good progress in all aspects of their learning. However, children are steadily developing the basic skills they need for school. Staff work effectively in partnership with parents and other professionals so that all children, including those who have special educational needs or disability, receive specific support for their learning and development.
