This provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment and a stimulating range of experiences for children to engage in. Children are highly active and enjoy playing outdoors. This helps to support their physical well-being. Partnerships with parents are well established. Parents contribute information about what children know and can do, and are aware of the activities children take part in so they can extend their learning at home. Children are happy and content in the childminder's care. The childminder is warm towards children. She comforts, nurtures and praises them, contributing to the development of their confidence. The childminder interacts well with children during their play, which increases their confidence in using language and extends their range of vocabulary. Children behave well. The childminder is a positive role model. As a result, children know exactly what is expected of them. They cooperate well with each other, and

p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use what she knows about children to plan precisely for their individual next steps, to help them make the best possible progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at records of children's learning, and a selection of policies and other records. The inspector observed an activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members and the childminder's self-evaluation form. The inspector took account of responses from parents in written documentation and conversations.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of her responsibility to keep children safe. For example, she keeps up to date with procedures and any changes to legislation to protect children. The childminder successfully reflects on her practice to identify relevant priorities for improvement. She has developed close relationships with other childminders in the area, with whom she regularly discusses and shares best practice. The childminder identifies gaps in children's learning quickly and discusses them with parents. She supports parents to seek early interventions to ensure children's continued progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good awareness of how children learn and develop. She supports children effectively in making good progress through enjoyable and challenging activities. She is constantly involved as children play to extend their learning further. For example, she uses mathematical language, such as bigger and smaller, and counts objects with children. The childminder provides experiences for children that spark their curiosity. For example, children explore the changes in texture and colour when water and food colouring is added to cornflour. Children enjoy books and listen attentively to well-read stories. The childminder uses her knowledge and observations of children to assess their abilities. She carries out assessments, such as the progress check for children aged between two and three years, and shares these with parents.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy physical play in the childminder's garden. Babies are safe and comfortable as they explore the outdoor environment under close supervision from the childminder. The childminder helps children to develop healthy lifestyles. For example, she teaches them to wash their hands after outdoor play and before eating their meals. She also teaches them about the benefits of eating healthy foods and they learn to feed themselves. The childminder regularly takes children on outings. She teaches them about different cultures and traditions through activities and resources that reflect the wider world. Children are developing a positive attitude to others, they follow simple instructions from the childminder, and respond positively to her praise and encouragement. The childminder has established good relationships with other settings that children attend, promoting a consistent and complementary approach to children's learning and

Outcomes for children are good
Children are working well within their developmental levels and are making good progress. Their independence is developing well and they are increasingly able to manage self-care tasks. They learn how to use the toilet by themselves and put on their own Wellington boots prior to going outside to play. Children are beginning to develop the skills they need to help prepare them for the next stage in their learning, including their move on to school.
