This provision is good
The childminder is patient and caring and builds very good relationships with children. For example, she gets down to their level to play. Children are confident to approach the childminder, such as for support or cuddles. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively and plans activities and experiences that challenge them in their next steps of learning. Children engage well in their learning and make good progress from their starting points. The childminder helps children to behave well. For example, children help make the rules and learn how to use timers to support them to share and take turns fairly. The childminder is committed to working in partnership with parents and other settings. For example, she shares information about children's progress with parents and gains feedback from them to help evaluate her practice. She has been proactive about contacting other settings children attend to share information to help provide a

consistent approach to their care and learning. The childminder is committed to developing her knowledge further. For example, she completes her own reading and research, and shares ideas with other childminders.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide a wide range of resources and materials for children to explore to help extend their creativity further. Children do not have a range of opportunities to learn about people's similarities and differences to extend their understanding of the wider world.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector held a short meeting with the childminder. The inspector and childminder observed children jointly during play and discussed the learning that took place. The inspector observed the childminder interacting with the children. The inspector looked at a sample of paperwork, including evidence of suitability, children's records and the childminder's training records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder reflects clearly on her strengths and weaknesses, and has developed her setting well since registration. For example, she has taken advice about assessing children's progress to help swiftly address any gaps in their learning. She has also developed her outdoor area to make it an interesting and exciting place for children to play. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has kept her knowledge updated and knows the process to follow if she has any concerns about children's welfare. She is aware of possible signs that may raise her concerns, including those that indicate children or families are at risk of being drawn into extremist views.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is very knowledgeable about how children learn. Children have time to try things out and the childminder sensitively joins in with their play to help extend their learning. For example, she named animals while children completed jigsaw puzzles and encouraged children to point to parts of the body on the dolls. The childminder uses her resources well, such as to support children's interests and to offer them challenges to help extend their learning. For example, during pretend play, the childminder counted and encouraged children to take turns to talk on the 'telephone'. The childminder helps children to develop good communication skills. For example, she repeats new words to children such as 'soft' and gives simple explanations to them. The childminder talks to children while they play and uses resources, such as puppets and songs, to help extend their communication skills further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very nurturing and knows the children well, and supports their individual needs effectively. She works closely with parents to find out about children's needs, such as routines for sleep and diet, and mirrors these in her setting. The childminder provides a very welcoming environment where children develop their confidence well along with a strong sense of belonging. For example, she provides individual boxes for their personal belongings and offers consistent praise and encouragement. The childminder keeps children safe. For example, she completes regular safety checks to minimise any hazards and helps children to manage risks, such as using steps and chairs safely.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children settle well and confidently follow routines. For example, they follow instructions for snack time and nappy changing and independently go to their individual boxes for their belongings. Children learn how to handle books correctly and enjoy reading. They develop a range of skills and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
