This provision is good

 The childminder is well qualified and experienced. She uses knowledge gained from her qualification to support children to reach their potential. All children are making good progress in relation to their starting points. They are learning and developing the key skills needed for their eventual move on to school.  Children enjoy learning through play and are enthusiastic learners. This is because the childminder provides a varied range of activities and resources based on children's stage of development, interests and learning needs.  The childminder undertakes regular observations and assessments of children. She has a clear and good understanding of what children know, understand and can do. She uses this information to plan appropriate next steps in their learning.  Children's health and well-being are promoted particularly well through outdoor play. The childminder encourages children's natural curiosity and provides ample

opportunities for fresh air and exercise.  The childminder has secured good relationships with other early years settings, the local school and health professionals. She uses her connections and relationships to fully support and promote children's care, learning and development. This promotes a collaborative approach to meet the individual needs of children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder has formed good relationships with parents, she has yet to explore further successful ways to help parents support children's continued progress at home.

p.1

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of people living in the household.  The inspector observed children during play and evaluated their learning with the childminder.  The inspector viewed areas of the house and garden used for childminding and discussed with the childminder how she keeps these areas safe.  The inspector spoke to a parent during the inspection and also took account of other parent's views through documentation.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is passionate about early years and dedicated to her role. She uses self- evaluation effectively and demonstrates a strong capacity to improve her provision. Since her last inspection, she has addressed all recommendations successfully. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about procedures to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare. She has a good understanding about how to keep her environment safe and minimise any hazards. The childminder places a strong focus on her professional development which helps her to keep up to date with any changes in legislation and new initiatives. Consequently, children are provided with high- quality learning experiences.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a very clear picture of each child's capabilities and skills. Her teaching is good. She provides a rich and varied environment, both inside and outdoors, and encourages children to lead their own learning. Children are curious, motivated and demonstrate high levels of involvement as they engage in chosen activities. For example, while outside, a child enjoys rolling balls down a pipe for a significant period of time. They learn to solve problems as they discover which size ball to roll. Children refine their skills as they are given the time to practise and discover things for themselves. Younger children's needs are met well. The childminder ensures there is plenty of space to support children who have just started crawling. Toys and equipment are placed low down to enhance children's independence and exploring. This purposeful teaching gives children good foundations for their future learning, such as school.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's personal, social and emotional development are promoted exceptionally well. The childminder takes time to get to know children and families through effective settling- in sessions. Children demonstrate they are secure and settled as they explore their surroundings and go to the childminder for cuddles and reassurance. Older and younger children are helped to mix and interact well with each other, developing important social skills. The childminder supports children's understanding of what a healthy lifestyle is. She provides opportunities for children to learn about and explore different fruits and vegetables through a range of first-hand experiences. Furthermore, the well-resourced, spacious garden provides children with opportunities to manage their own risks and practice their large-muscle skills, boosting their self-esteem and confidence.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good attitudes to learning. They are confident, contented and enthusiastic to take part in activities and learn. All children develop within the expected range and make good progress from their starting points. Children who speak English as an additional language are developing good spoken English skills and have developed the confidence and social skills needed to make new friends. Children demonstrate their growing independence and make choices in their play. They are provided with lots of opportunities to learn how to keep themselves safe and understand their own capabilities.
