which has a positive impact on experiences she provides children with.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always give children enough time to think about how they are going to respond to her questions or comments.  The childminder is not making the most of all opportunities to help children understand the benefits of nutritious food as part of their healthy lifestyles.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 give children more time to respond to questions so they can think for themselves  make the most of all opportunities to help children understand the benefits of eating healthily.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interaction with children throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled children's observation, planning and assessment documents, and looked at the registration records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability to work with children and sampled her policies and procedures.  The inspector held conversations with the childminder, parents and children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has robust safeguarding policies and procedures. She is clear about her responsibility to keep children safe, and what procedures to follow if she has any child protection concerns. She closely monitors children's progress and effectively plans to tackle any gaps identified in their learning and development. Partnerships with parents are strong. She regularly shares their children's achievements with them and other adults involved in their education, to maintain consistency. Parents speak very highly of the childminder and value the care and learning experiences she provides for their children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder successfully plans a range of learning experiences that support children's learning in all areas. For example, children enjoy playing with wooden trains, developing good control of their movements and hand-to-eye coordination. The childminder is always around and ready to support their play. Children are very active learners who confidently explore and investigate, following their own ideas. For example, children get toys and activities they want to do and have opportunities to use them at their own pace.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children receive good support from the childminder, who provides very caring and nurturing environment. The childminder is a good role model. She provides children with clear explanations to help them understand and learn different rules and boundaries. For example, children follow house rules and happily help tidy up after they have finished activities. Children develop good social skills, are very polite and have positive attitudes towards others. Children are provided with well-balanced meals and snacks, and have robust hygiene routines to support their healthy lifestyles. They enjoy many opportunities to be active and play outside.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points and gain skills needed for their future learning and eventual move to school. They follow instructions and have valuable opportunities to develop their early mathematical skills. For example, children sort animals according to their colour, count and compare them. They use small tools to pick up the animals, which also helps to develop their handgrip in readiness for early writing skills. Children are active learners, develop a strong sense of achievement, express their needs clearly and concentrate well.
