This provision is good
Children feel safe, secure and comfortable at the childminder's home. They develop strong attachments with the childminder and settle quickly when parents leave. The childminder has a good knowledge of the children's individual care needs and supports these well. The childminder monitors children's development effectively. Clear assessment and planning methods help the childminder to identify children's next steps in learning. The childminder provides challenging activities to support children's good progress. Partnerships with parents are successful. Parents receive detailed information about their children's progress on a regular basis. All adults work closely together to provide consistency in learning. The childminder is keen to continue to build her knowledge and skills to extend her professional development. For example, she has recently learnt new ideas to support children's physical development through playful exercise.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always identify opportunities to extend children's learning further and sometimes does things for them that they can do for themselves. Children do not always have enough opportunities to increase their understanding of early mathematics and to learn about numbers, counting, measurement and shapes.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
encourage children to do more for themselves, to help them make as much progress as they can make better use of opportunities to support children's understanding of mathematics, to help them learn to count, measure, and recognise numbers and shapes.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the available play spaces and resources, and observed interactions between children and the childminder. The inspector observed adult-initiated and child-led play. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's learning records, the childminder's training certificates and risk assessments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection issues and understands how to seek advice if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She routinely risk assesses her home and planned activities, to enable her to provide a safe environment for children. The childminder successfully evaluates her provision to make ongoing developments to the setting, to improve outcomes for children further. For example, she has changed the organisation of resources to better suit the needs of children who found it more difficult to concentrate. She has good plans to develop the storage of garden resources to make them more easily accessible to children at all times.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans challenging activities to support children's learning and link closely with their individual interests. For example, she planned an activity based upon a child's favourite character to develop their language skills and concentration. Children engaged well throughout this planned learning experience, and they enjoyed the opportunity to be creative and talk about their interest. The childminder ensures that she gives children her full attention during discussion to support their communication skills, such as getting down to their height to maintain eye contact. Children confidently communicate their needs and wishes, and respond eagerly to the childminder's questions and comments. The childminder provides a good range of technology toys, which children eagerly explore, to help them learn about cause and effect.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from a stimulating range of resources, and they move confidently between the playroom and garden as they choose where they play. The childminder provides regular opportunities for children to be active and develop physical skills. For instance, children practise balancing and use coordination as they learn to ride scooters. The childminder's calm and reassuring manner and her frequent praise of children's achievements helps to build their self-esteem. Children display a real sense of belonging and emotional well-being through their good behaviour. The childminder provides consistent reminders to help children learn about keeping safe, such as prompting them to hold the rail as they use the stairs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their development, from their starting points. They acquire the skills they need to be ready for the next stage in their learning, including school. For example, they listen to and follow the childminder's instructions, communicate confidently and are eager to explore. Children play creatively and imaginatively, and they happily invite others to join in their games, such as making them 'cups of tea'.
