This provision is good

 The childminder has a good relationship with the children in her care. She provides them with a range of activities which takes account of their interests and supports their learning effectively to enable them to make good progress.  The childminder observes and monitors children's development well. She identifies children's next steps for learning and plans well for their future development.  Children are confident and enjoy a variety of activities inside and outside of the home. They are well behaved and demonstrate that they understand the house rules.  The childminder provides a welcoming home where children can rest or be active.  The childminder evaluates her practice well. She regularly undertakes training to improve her teaching skills. For example, she has attended a course to help her understand how letters and sounds are taught to children. This has helped her to use techniques in her practice that prepare children for school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to encourage parents to share more information about their children's learning, to plan even more effectively for children's further learning.  The childminder does not create regular opportunities for children to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and people in the world around them.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on the information shared with parents even further to help support children's learning even more consistently at home and at the setting  extend children's knowledge and understanding of the similarities and differences between themselves and others.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the main play areas and garden.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including children's learning journals and records, the childminder's self-evaluation and policies.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through available letters and documentation.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about her responsibility to keep children safe. For example, she knows the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder uses risk assessment effectively to ensure her home is safe and secure. She regularly shares information about children's development with others involved in children's care to help provide continuity in their care and learning. Written feedback from parents shows that they are happy with the care and education offered to their children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a good range of activities, toys and resources to occupy and engage children. She has plenty of experience of working with children and successfully supports their learning and development through play. For example, she encourages children to develop their physical skills as they explore and handle rice, carefully incorporating colour recognition and introducing mathematical language as they investigate. The childminder helps children to become confident talkers. For example, when playing she asks them a range of questions and talks to them about what they are doing, to help them to listen and concentrate well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has good procedures in place to help children settle in and feel safe within her home. For example, she gets to know children well before they start, through visits and gaining information from parents, which helps to build their confidence. The childminder helps children to understand the importance of being kind, polite and considerate. For instance, she reminds them to use good table manners and she uses praise and encouragement for kindness and to recognise children's achievements. The childminder supports children's health well. For example, she teaches children good hygiene routines and takes them outdoors daily.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are happy and make good progress in their learning and development. Children develop good independence skills. For example, they all know to take off their shoes and coats as they enter the home, and older children help with preparing the table for tea. Children are developing a strong understanding of letters and their meaning, for example, as they look for their name to register their attendance. Children are confidently developing a good range of skills to prepare them for future learning.
